I think it mostly comes down to how the Net has evolved since this board's inception.

I signed up for BB&B in '97, but I am not sure of it's exact "date of birth". At that time, all "bulletin board" sites, as they were known, had users with screen names or "handles", and BB&B went along with the trend.

Since then, other sites like Facebook and other sites have people using their real names, and most of the "handle" sites have gone under.

I guess you could just say we are old fashioned. I have always had my real name in my user profile, but I've never thought about changing my screen name.

I like using the screen names, some people are very clever and others portray a bit of their personality in them. I would just like to see their actual name in the profile.

I noticed one person on the board just a second ago who has been out spoken significantly and hides behind his name updated his profile presumably today and put just a first name. Good try pal, still need to grow up and own up. Its easy to hide and make negative comments.

I just noticed this thread. I think my first name has been on my profile for sometime. I really never look at the profile section of the members, and I really didn't think many did. I don't mind anyone knowing who I am. I still haven't met anyone on this site. I am a introverted around new people, so I guess that's my excuse. I will say that I figured out who JFord was based off of BB&B. :icon_wink:

No one cares if you're introverted or extraverted. People respect the complaints more when you aren't hiding Jeff or is that made up?

i honestly don't remember why i removed my name from my profile a few years ago. doesn't matter, though. if you can't figure out my first name, you need help with more than just that. at least 7 1/2 people on this board know who i am. if anyone thinks they might know me, they can send me a private message. i just don't like a whole lot of personal information floating out there in the intarwebs for the whole world to see.

Nope. Not made up. I went ahead and added some more info as well. I was referring to meeting people off the board but that's no thing. PM'd you JFord.

I got introuble a few years ago with my work about comments I made (and still believe) about a local bowl that we help sponsor. Someone from the bowl saw them and went to my bosses and complained. So I changed my name and removed my personal information. I have met MANY of you guys (and girls) in person and I am not trying to "hide" behind a screen name to other TECH fans. But I prefer to only give my personal information to thoughs who give personal information.

That is MY reason. But I'll give you a little personal information. J A B are my intials. It is not anything to do with taking "jabs" at people.
