Oil that has been recovered from the gulf has, in total, done far more good than the small amount of bad caused by that spill. By your logic, the risk of having a pimple means that we would be better off without faces.

Also, this is not a ban, an area in the western gulf was opened to lease bidding a year or two before Deepwater Horizon, and permits/drilling MAY have started in as soon as 3 years.
