C'mon, man. Nobody is happy about this loss, but this thread doesn't help anything....and this is coming from a guy who screamed loudly for the firing of Bicknell and Oakes.

We're 114 out of 120 in total defense. Spang has a job to do and isn't getting it done. Thats just awful.
If I had results like that at my job, I'd be out the door come Monday. And Spang makes good money to put forth such a sucky effort.
Defense needs new leadership. Didn't get it done this year.

I believe NV scored 5 straight TDs, and on every one of the drives NV converted several 3rd and longs. Pathetic. Our defensive mentality appears to be "sit back and wait for them to come to us." We don't attack the ball carrier or blockers at all; if we do, then our problems are much deeper than the coordinator.
This year reminded me of the Gary Crowton days. It seems like it's impossible for an offensive-minded head coach to have good defenses. Spangler's numbers were better when Dooley was managing the games. (Mike Leach had some decent defenses at Texas Tech though, so it's possible).

I agree that Spangler will most likely be gone after this season, but it's because he isn't one of Dykes' guys, and Sonny will want to bring in his own DC. He looked last season, but couldn't find who he wanted. The same could be true for other coaches left over from the Dooley years.
This season has been a disappointment in a lot of ways, but when Spangler came here we had been dead last in defense two of the past three years. He turned things around and brought in some talented players. With the type of offense we run, this year's D hasn't measured up and the DC will most likely go.
Just wondering, did he have someone specific in mind last spring?
What's our average weight for DT? We've been gutted up the middle all year and it's obvious to most that we were undersized on the defensive line this year. This isn't all on Spangler.
This team is mediocre and is just flat out not good enough to beat hardly any teams with winning records. This coaching staff is mediocre, or worse. SD's response will be telling regarding his readiness to be a Head Coach.
