    10 mph cushion

...is now at 5 mph. Of course this is all in the name of safety on our roads.

    Re: 10 mph cushion

I always thought the cushion was 5 mph. I got pulled over outside of Little Rock for going 75 in a 70. Wound up with a written warning, but I couldn't believe I was pulled over for that.

I always run +7 in LA and TX, and never have a problem. I drive from Ruston to DFW every 2 weeks.

LSP issued a notice back a few weeks ago. Supposedly, this past weekend was the first weekend for the new enforcement. The local agencies usually key off of the State Police so they'll all be out trying to make an extra buck.

    Re: 10 mph cushion

I thought the cushion was determined by different cities/Parishes/Counties. I do 4 over now, since I got a ticket for 6 over a month ago in a little town in Texas. I hate when it is 70 and you are coming up to a 60 limit and slowing down. I was at 66 and slowing right as I hit the sign - lights came on behind me.

I believe the "cushion" has always been about 1 mph in Baskin, IF that... Ferriday used to be major hardasses about that as well, until the feds cracked down on the police department there and had them raise the speed limit to 35.

On 167, it is the three "Ds"; viz., Dubach, Dodson and Dry Prong (Legend has it that Dry Prong was named after a venereal disease). Do not speed in those towns. In Dodson, they apparently saw a drop in revenue, so they recently dropped their speed limit to 25 mph. I call it a "no wake zone."

Also, a new start up business has been set up on 167. They named the new business, Crayola, I mean Creola. Before they set up their operation, the area was primarily known for their gated trailer park They capitalized on the arrival of the new divided four lane by incorporating to form an entirely new form of speed trap. Their gig is that the speed limit rapidly changes in a 15 miles stretch on this wonderful divided four lane highway in a very rural part of the state. Without any towns in the stretch, they were able to get the speed limits to vary from 65 to 45 to 55 to 65 and then back to 55. I call the area "The Hellespont." Unless you want to just drive 45, you have to really watch what the speed limit is. Creola does not look in any way like it should be a reduced speed zone until the blue lights start flashing and they welcome you to trailer park heaven. Now, I hear rumors they are trying to show a good profit in order to make themselves attractive to sell their business to the Indians, who want to open a casino. Apparently that is a better source of income than even piracy.

Do not speed in Waskom, Texas at all. Go exactly the speed limit. To be safe, go 2 miles under the speed limit.

That is about every town between Tyler and Austin, as well. Drives me nuts.

I drive five days a week, north, south and west. Soonerdawg has the three d's right. I don't think there is a safe place to test the cushion anymore. It depends to much on what day you catch them and how bad they need cash.
