Is that supposed to be a joke? You can't even compare the talent that BCS schools get compared to non BCS schools, especially in terms of pitching. SEC, Pac 10 and Big 12 schools get their pick of top arms, non-BCS schools don't. That's a reality.

SEC schools play three game series, WAC schools do not. That directly affects injuries. When you have to utilize your entire pitching staff over a weekend, that directly affects injuries.

It's not an even playing field but that's just the hand that we were dealt. With that being said, hopefully the new bats will our arms this year.

Which of our current injured pitchers were injured due to a four game series? Weren't most of them injured prior to WAC play beginning last year?

What other conferences, BCS or not, play 4 game weekends?

That lack of BCS talent didn't seem to hurt Fresno a couple of years back.

Yeah, somebody needs to tell Coastal Carolina, Cal State Fullerton, UC Irvine, Rice, and a few others that they are out of luck with no pitching.

This is all bullcrap, because "BCS" doesn't matter in baseball. Baseball's getting less parity in it similarly to football, especially in the scheduling department, but it's not a one-to-one match with the so-called "BCS powers." Take a look at Rice, Southern Miss, or Tulane, which are all C-USA programs.

The only way I can figure out to reconcile your points here is that maybe you think more-talented pitchers don't wear out as easily?

If the WAC scheduling policy is the problem, then why bring in the talent question? If it's the talent, then why bring up the schedule? Do you think it's a depth issue? Like, an SEC team could afford the attrition that you think the WAC schedule causes because their 4th best pitcher is still pretty good? Cause that does seem like a valid point.

But it'd still be hard to draw a line between pitcher injuries and the WAC schedule if the players are getting injured before conference play.

Well, obviously only if John Anderson is pitching.

Sure, but we'll have to wait a year for that now... :bigcry:

MAN I hope we can out-score some people this season, 'cause football and now men's basketball are huge disappointments, so I'm looking forward to baseball. I can take the losses though, 'cause I'm also an Astros fan. Yeehaw!!

John is a fifth year senior who I believe will use up all his eligibility with him missing this season.

Tulane is sliding little by little, maybe for state budget, New Orleans slow recovery, etc.

Rice and USM put a lot of money into program, salaries, and budgets....huge difference from band aid wagon at Tech outside Football and Basketball and even basketball is below those budgets. Even ULL baseball budget is more, but don't expect anything to change soon with current expertise over Athletic programs. It would have to be forced by several well heeled and influential parties outside current AD department personnel.

BCS programs and well heeled Non BCS programs like Rice get the best talent year in and year out, especially the pitchers. Not a debate, a fact known by those that scout and work around those programs.

All that said, we a just a little more work in football that they should be winning record consistently and some bowls. Basketball still needs a little more budget, but at least got off pure bottom a few years back. All other key sports other than football and basketball are probably still 4-6 years away. Tech normally doesn't fix one of these sports a little until they have a coaching change and then as cheap as they can keep it. Just what we have seen for years and years. So some good, some bad.

Does every team go through pitchers like we do? It seems like every year we're "young" or "hurt".

It seems like this happens every year. I think our team has had enough shoulder injuries over the past few years to pay for an on staff orthopedic surgeon. I don't know whether we are getting guys that got ran out to the mound every game in high school, or the pitching staff not fixing their mechanics, or is this just a freak thing but I'm ready to see us have some consistency in the rotation through the entire year.
