WOW
A group of Southern University students has filed a lawsuit seeking to stop a possible merger of historically black Southern University at New Orleans with the University of New Orleans campus.
A Baton Rouge district judge has issued a temporary restraining order against the Board of Regents' study of the issue and any merger until a Feb. 24 hearing about the matter.
The lawsuit - filed on behalf of the students by former state Sen. Cleo Fields - argues that the Regents board studying a consolidation of the two campuses is unconstitutional because its racial and gender makeup under-represents black and female Louisiana citizens. A hearing is set for next week.
I think its racist that they are filing the lawsuit! The numbers don't lie, the school SUCKS as a school. It is a total waste of taxpayer money. Reverse racism at its best.
They seem to always conduct a study on an issue, and , did anybody notice how exhorbanant these studies cost? Something AIN'T right. PS: I know AINT is not a word, but it felt good writing it. HAH! HAH! By the way, I was a student at UNO a while back, and it was already merged to a degree with SUNO. I was an education major, and a few of the required classes were taught on the SUNO campus, thus, forcing myself to take this psych class at SUNO. THis means, that, I had to allow sufficient time to give up my early morning victory of my parking spot on UNO's campus and TRY to find a parking spot NEAR SUNO...which was rediculously exhuasting...even with a sub-compact 1978 Ford Fiesta...yes, Ford had a Fiesta model from the late 70's to early 80's. Cool car...very spartan, but, needed basic features. This is a political hot potatoe, but, these 2 universities have been working together for a long time. PS: believe it or not, the NAACP is on record for not endorsing SUNO's creation. Check it out, ...It is true.. Their beliefs were, that, SUNO was created because UNO would not allow blacks to attend, and UNO was created just before as LSUNO. UNO should have accepted African-Americans from day 1...therefore, no SUNO would have been needed to be built in the FIRST PLACE!!! BECAUSE< IF no one got what I just typed, THIS MEANS that UNO would have been a University for EVERYBODY. Not just a historic white college. This conversation would not even be taking place.
True to that point... my bad...good article...check out The early days of LSUNO, by Carolyn Kolb. Nice article...It is strange though, that, by lsUNO being integrated from day 1...WHICH it was, then WHY was SUNO even created and maintained to this day? No need then. You can hit a golf ball from SUNO, and have it land on UNO's campus. That is how close these two schools are to each other. Let's see what happens with all of this. Thanks Dawg06

"The Louisiana Board of Regents has voted 9 - 6 to recommend to the Louisiana legislature that the administrations of the University of New Orleans and Southern University at New Orleans be combined.
Board members stressed that the move will not eliminate either institution. Both schools will retain their names and separate missions."
The proposal is to create a University of Greater New Orleans to be housed under the UL System. The new University would include UNO and SUNO. UGNO woud have two separate units, an urban research university (UNO) and a metropolitian university (SUNO). The proposal is in the attached study under Alternative B.

How does that make it more efficient? It sounds like we just added a new layer of governance!?
