I am looking to buy myself a GPS for the car...tired of relying on iPhone's piss poor quasi-GPS offering. I am a cheap bastard so recommendations that run more than $200 will be frowned upon.
Thanks!

I'm an asshole! What's your excuse?
Bought a Tom Tom about three years ago. Worked pretty well when I used it; now I use Google Maps on my Droid.
I got a Garmin and really like it. Has been pretty accurate and much easier to use than map quest.
You can get TomTom or Navigon on your iPhone, but I'm not sure what your problem with the iPhone nav is. I think it's pretty decent. It's definitely better than the one in my vehicle. Jailbreak your iPhone and you can get them for free. It doesn't get any cheaper than that.
I'm looking to buy a DVD touchscreen with the navigation built into it. It would kill two birds with 1 stone.
Garmin Nuvi is ~$150. I've taken mine to L.A. and other places. It works great.
I used a Tom Tom until I got a car with it built in this last year. The Tom Tom worked great. I haven't tried the one on my Droid yet. The one built in my car works the best, though.
My wife bought me a Tom Tom for Christmas. $60 to $70 dollar range I think at Walmart.
I have a really good voice activated factory installed nav system in my car but I still prefer to use a laptop running Microsoft Streets and Trips with GPS. Here's a website that reviews the software available for laptops/netbooks - www.laptopgpsworld.com
Garmin or Tom Tom...one of them doesn't allow use offshore to mark fishing spots. Which one? That should be a deal breaker for all fishermen.
Garmin nuvi for me (~150). Great. Will never go to a large city without it anymore.
iPhone
iPhones are great getting from point A to point B in less than complex metor areas...works intermittantly in big cities and on the highway.
