I honestly don't think we lose much if anything at all.

Every school has low completer numbers in all of the specialized education fields. I think they may restructure the nomenclature of the education degrees and have specialty concentrations in the different fields.

We aren't losing the Math, Chemistry, and Physics degrees because those professors teach several courses that all the engineering students have to take.

No, too many specialized degrees (at least according to the measures used in this analysis).

This would be a big deal to me if each of these programs had their own specialized faculty who only taught in these majors. You could eliminate every one of these programs and not reduce the budget at all as far as I can tell.

Shedding a little light. The college of Ed used to have all their degrees under the ba umbrella. The registrar split all the degrees into separate ones about 3/4 years ago because the state made them

Now those degrees are on the chopping block

Btw. All the music degrees that tech offers are on the block. This will be devastating to the band of pride and hoop troop

I wouldn't think that a university with a College of Engineering and Science like Tech would have these programs cut.

Re: Board of Regents Identifies Underperforming Programs for Termination

Several of these programs are newer programs that are now starting to graduate students who enrolled in the degree programs in the past few years.

No graduates in 2005-06, 06-07, & 07-08. Three in 2008-09. Five in 2009-10. Nice uptrend in the completers in the last 2 years.

    5. MAT Special Education M/Mod Grades - avg 3.7 completers
One graduate in 2005-06. Five graduates in 2009-2010.

    6. MAT Special Education: Visually Impaired - avg 0.3 completers
With the Louisiana Center for the Blind located in Ruston, I'd be shocked if Tech had to shut this program down.

    12. MAT Middle School Education Grades 4-8 - avg 3.0 completers
One graduate for 2005-06, 06-07, and 07-08. Five graduates in 2009-2010 school year.

    31. BS Nanosystems Engineering - avg 6.7 completers (new program, only one in nation)
No graduates in 2005-06, 1 in 2006-07, 7 graduates in 2009-10. Another nice uptrend in completers.

    40. BS Geography - avg 2.3 completers
In comparison, LSU-Shreveport has an average of 0.4 completers per year in the BS/Geography program.

    41. BS Geographic Information Science - avg 5.7 completers
No graduates in 2005-06. Seven graduates in 2009-10. Only Bachelor degree like this in the State.

    45. MHI Health Informatics - avg 3.7 completers
No graduates in 2005-06. Five graduates in 2009-2010.

    47. BS Sustainable Supply Chain Management - avg 0.7 completers
No graduates for the first few years of the 5-year cycle. Two graduates in 2009-2010.

ULM's BA in Music is on the chopping block too. They average only 5 completers.

I took a Computer Science class at ULM one summer. It was the worst class I have ever taken. The professor got half the programs he designed wrong.

We have the only Wildlife Habitat Management program in Louisiana.

LSU is the only other school to offer Environmental Science.

They should shut down the foreign language programs at LSUS, Grambling, and ULM.

    BA French completer averages

    4.0 - LA Tech
    1.7 - ULM
    1.3 - LSUS
    0.7 - Grambling

    BA Spanish completer averages
    6.0 - LA Tech
    6.0 - ULM
    2.3 - LSUS
    1.3 - Grambling

Re: Board of Regents Identifies Underperforming Programs for Termination

I find it hard to believe they would shut down the programs we have that no other school has in the country. Nanosystems...Audiology...

And the Supply Chain Management is a new program that was a big deal when it was started.
