DENVER - Western Athletic Conference commissioner Karl Benson announced today that both Fresno State's and Louisiana Tech's women's basketball teams have been publicly reprimanded for violating the WAC's sportsmanship code in a postgame incident following their February 5 contest in Ruston.
At the conclusion of Louisiana Tech's 90-84 overtime victory, an altercation at center court resulted in a confrontation involving both teams.
In addition, Fresno State's Marnique Arnold and Louisiana Tech's Brietta Thomas have each been suspended for one game due to their individual actions in the exchange. Both players will serve their suspension in their respective team's next game. Louisiana Tech hosts New Mexico State tonight while Fresno State hosts Boise State on Thursday.

Two players had to be separated...they both had to be suspended. Both teams acted improperly, so both teams were reprimanded.

If the Fresno State players had been ordered off the court by security as should have happened without Tech players getting involved, then Fresno State would have gotten the only reprimand and no suspensions would have been needed.

It would have taken security some time to be coaxed into escorting FSU off the court. By then, FSU would have gotten away with what they wanted with impunity.

...and the resulting WAC penalty against Fresno State may have been stronger than just a team reprimand.

The time for payback was not Saturday night...it is at Orleans Arena when the WAC trophy gets handed out and the nets get cut down.

I think he should make all the teams have their benches on opposite sides for home and visitors. That will clear everything up.
