El Chile Verde on Thomas Rd. in WM will become an El Paso Grill. An upgrade IMHO.

It was at the one down the street, not at the bookstore bowling alley. It closed after the Tech bowling center was built for obvious reasons.

I started Tech Sept. 1964 and graduated March 1969. I stretched it as long as I could because I knew Uncle Sam was waiting for me. Sure enough, I got my draft notice 3 months after I graduated.
I should have remembered that as I had three friends who had trailers and lived just a little further along. By the way, it took them seven months to get me -- January 1970 (draft notice in Dec. 1969) -- I graduated in May of 1969.

Chile Verde is not a complementary description of anything here in San Antonio. Good change of name.

Allen, TX just got a new "Pin Stack" Bowling Alley a couple of miles from my house. Hopefully Ruston's getting something like this. These are pretty nice.

I'm pretty sure the local chain of El Chle Verde spots (Ruston two spots and two in WM) are owned by the same family. They have a plate called "The Tech Special" that is wonderful. Most places would not have allowed that named dish on their menu Ouachita Parish. I've never tried El Paso Grill, but I bet they have a ulm plate of some sort.

I believe this is right. IMO, you can’t beat the fajitas at El Toro. We stopped going to La Bamba after terrible service at least3 times in a row. Haven’t been to El Juarrito in a long time either.

Those suckers were aiming for me. I got my draft notice late June or early July 1969....didn't want to go in the Army, so I joined the Navy on a 120 day delayed enlistment program. I started boot camp Dec. 1, 1969....that same day they had the first ever draft lottery. My birthday was the first one ever drawn! I was already in the Navy but it was ironic.

just went to Chile Verde for the last time and just as a I remembered it's still nothing to write home about. The salsa felt like it was too watered down

No. That's another building. The old bowling alley building was torn down and Tech parking lot placed over it. The few faculty parking spots in that area is the old parking lot for it.

The old bowling alley space is now being built on by TECH. New Engineering Building is covering it up.

FBC’s youth meet in the old Mickey Mays Office Supply store, east of the old bowling alley and pretty much across from McDonald’s and the original Sonic.

El Paso Grill took over the Monroe Chile Verde spot on 165. El Paso is a chain with lots of locations in south Louisiana. I'm sure the Chile Verde owners saw that success and convinced El Paso to come into their Thomas Rd. location, too. Don't know what the N. 18th CV location will do . . .
