This news is a few months old but I just saw the news of the proposal of Ruston getting an Amtrak stop. They'll build it between the railroad and the old firehouse station, next to the farmer's market. The video in the link shows the plans from the mayor but I can't find the design anywhere else online. If it comes to fruition, that'll really help downtown Ruston. It'll help make it more walkable, bring more customers to businesses there and give students and fans options to travel to Ruston. Hopefully it will also become the Greyhound stop as well for the city creating a central station for transportation.
If they can bring more hotels to downtown Ruston you could get off a train, walk a few minutes to your hotel, have dining options all around downtown and take the shuttle to football games all without having to pay or worry about gas and parking. It's also why I wish they hadn't built the housing on the other side of Tech Drive but put it closer to downtown Ruston as it would make it easier for students to patronize businesses downtown and now be able to take the train without needing to drive.
The Monroe mayor is trying to out-AMTRAK the Ruston mayor. Monroe mayor has held several pressers.
I could not care less . . . unless the route goes straight to the East Coast (Charleston, hint hint)

Push your elected officials for train expansion in the country and you could get your wish!
Though in my opinion, Charleston is a bit far for a train ride from Ruston but to each their own. Trains should be utilized more for distances that are in general too far to drive but to close to fly. Dallas to Ruston is a good distance for the train. I know people will say that 4 hours isn't too far to drive but for others those 4 hours would be better spent on a train relaxing taking into account not having to worry about gas, parking, traffic, or vehicular breakdowns if driving.
Following the I-20 corridor to the east coast is NOT out of line.
Thanks they already have the major league markets handled.
If they want to expand, have some vision.

Not out of line to build, I agree. But for personal journeys, it's a long distance to go from Ruston to Charleston. Better than driving definitely if that is the alternative but that's my personal preference.
I am sure they have the vision, but not the desired funding or control.
The problem is that the train ride from Dallas to Ruston will have a bucket of stops along the way and take 7+ hours. And the drive is less than 3 hours 45 minutes. The train from Ft. Worth to San Antonio is 7 hrs. 45 minutes and the drive is 4 hours. But the train is way more relaxing as I35 sucks.
I still want to take my son to a Cubs game and ride the train from Jackson to Chicago. Friend told me it’s a relatively easy trip. That seems worth it.
