I've got some on my lease in Elm Grove but not nearly as many as there used to be. They show up on our trail cams from time to time and occasionally they roost in a huge pine on the edge of the swamp. We have at least one mountain lion, bobcats, and a boatload of coyotes on the property (minus three coyotes that I smoked this past year) so I bet they have taken their toll. The damn mountain lion has some pine trees that he uses as marking trees on the property. They look just like deer rubs on pine trees only they are about 6 feet high on the tree! They, LDWF, killed one of the lions in Bossier Parish a year or two ago but I guess one of his family is still hanging around.

Depends on what kind of 20ga.. When Ty was about seven I borrowed a single shot turkey edition 20 ga from a friend. That thing kicked like a mule. He could never shoot it well after the initial beating he took. Took him a bunch of rounds with a 22 to ever get to a point of not flinching with a gun. I'd say let him practice with a 410, then take a 20 or 12 to the woods. He'll never feel it if he is shooting at a bird.
I think I will just hunt them from my box stand in Bryceland or go to my other turkey haven in Arcadia.
