Look at that picture of D'Anthony getting to the QB. Cole was there as well but that kind of illustrates how unblockable Smith was. Guys like that don't grow on trees. Beast is over used. But he really was a beast!!

So where's our MEN'S basketball and baseball championships?
One look at all these women's championships at LA Tech tells you all you need to know: The MEN at LA Tech need to quit excuse mongering and start winning. The MEN aren't holding up THEIR end of the bargain.

A mens title in basketball would go a long way.
And why not baseball? LSU, ULL and Tulane all seem to find a way be championship contenders every year in baseball.

That's basically what I said.
Remember the WAC has won 2 College World Series national championships in our 10 years of WAC baseball: Rice in 2003 and Fresno State in 2008.
We put more money into football and women's basketball, and those other schools invest more into baseball. I certainly wouldn't trade our football program for Tulane or ULL's baseball program.
I'm perfectly aware of the fact that the WAC won 2 baseball NC's in 2003 & 2007. Seems to me that this would make it easier to recruit good players to LA Tech. Can we not capitalize on anything?

My point was that the WAC has had 2 dominant baseball programs, which make it difficult for us to win baseball championships with our very limited resources. Our admin hasn't really tried to win baseball championships, but we have finished in 2nd and 3rd in WAC baseball. The same can be said for men's basketball. We don't invest in MBB, but programs like Utah State do invest more into MBB at the expense of their football program. Their football team just notched their 1st winning season in 15 years, but USU has won 14 MBB conference championships during that same time period.
Our admin chooses to invest more into football than these other programs. In the Deep South, football is king. We don't have the money to make all of our programs championship caliber. We aren't swimming in money like LSU who can invest significantly in all of their programs.

I call TOTAL BS on this. Two or three years ago I (and some others) told you --and everybody else that keeps up with Bulldog basketball-- that Rupp was an idiot, and that his long distance recruiting strategy was destined for failure. Many of you scoffed at our recommendation that LA Tech needed to be recruiting more locally, or regionally.
Now, the purpose of my post today is NOT to say "I told you so" (even though I did), but rather to say that you are full of crap if you don't think our basketball program can't be competitive at the financial level we're already at. Could/should it be better? Sure. But under Rupp, we were losing to McNeese, NSU, Centenary, and other programs who have even smaller basketball budgets than ours.
Right now, the Dunkin Dawgs are simply paying for our past strategic mistakes, more specifically, the hiring of that idiot Rupp. Don't blame the "budget" for our own stupid mistakes.

I was certainly not a Rupp guy, but I think it was good to get Karl involved. If not, we'd probably still have bubble letters on our court right now. Rupp certainly wasn't an idiot, but I think he did have a communication problem. You also might want to go back and check those records against the other Louisiana schools because Rupp was pretty good against them until the wheels fell off last year.
I honestly don't know if anybody can win a WAC MBB title at Tech. Our last NCAA Tournament appearance was in 1991. Loyd couldn't get us in the tourney during his last 3 years as head coach. Jim Wooldridge couldn't get us to the Big Dance during his 4-year tenure. Keith Richard couldn't get an NCAA tourney bid during his 9 years at Tech. Rupp couldn't during his 4 years at Tech. I like Coach White, but I don't see him leading us to the Big Dance this year either.
