Actually, democracy (or the perversion of republicanism that Americans call "democracy") has everything to do with it. Pandering to public interests is as "democratic" as you can get. As long as Americans suffer from the illusion that "each vote matters," politicians are going to provide elusions and allusions to what the people want to hear. :icon_wink:

Read slowly -- Obama was elected because of all the hopenchange he was promising to bring to America. One of these changes was to close Guantanamo Bay, which is very clearly stated in the above video. Promises like this are why most people voted for him and not McCain. So, you could use the "democracy" explanation if Obama were actually closing Gitmo and ending the tribunals, because you and the other libtards voted for him, in part, to close Gitmo and end the tribunals. But he is NOT doing what you elected him to do. Instead, he is making an "executive" decision to keep the facility open and continue to tribunals. This is the opposite of democracy; he is not doing what voters (however misguided they were) elected him to do.

Democracy will come into play when the voters throw him out of office for failing to live up to his promises.

Hate to bust your bubble, but he has been on top of things while doing this. Constantly in contact with his advisors and various department heads when not doing the various things "required" of him to do.
