Nick Bruno projects budget cuts at ULM at $600,000 to $7 million depending on what happens during the regular session that starts this coming Monday.
ULM's athletic program will have to find a extremely generous donor very fast or they will have to dramatically cut back on a shoestring operating budget. The athletic department sources of funding are either drying up or non-existant. The students just voted down the athletic fee increase. Bruno will have to slash the ULM's operating budget including the $3.6 million in direct institutional support the university provides for the athletic program during the 2010 Fiscal Year. With the recent deals announced with Grambling, Baylor, and Tulane, ULM will not have as many guarantee games on their football schedule in 2012 and 2013 as they have in the past.
When 60% of the AD's budget ($10.75 million in 2010) comes from guarantee games ($2.94 million) and direct support from ULM ($3.58 million), any hit to either category will be devastating to the athletic program.
