I don't know man. All I can see them doing is taking jobs from Americans because they are willing to do it for about 1/10th the pay.

    Re: Report Card

I'd point out that the book we're talking about was written before 2008 so this isn't about Obama period. Remember that it was Bush Sr. who wanted most favored nation status for China and Clinton who delivered it. Bush Jr never once mentioned rescinded that in the 8 years he was in office. The idea that China and India rose because some politicians were trying to hold us back is just silly--and way misses the point of Post-American World.

More to the point, protectionism is generally a losing strategy. It creates an artificial barrier that just hides the lack of competitiveness. The truth is that if there are millions of people willing to work for a few dollars a day to build TVs, we're not going to compete very well at building TVs. So we're better off looking for something else to do and then selling that to the people who are building the TVs. Most outsourcing has to do with jobs that are just not that hard to do. Generally exceptions haven't panned out (like the move that was supposed to happen in computer jobs, but now we're desperate for computer professionals here).

We do need to make our corporate tax situation more competitive. What we don't want is for a company's whole business to move overseas because virtually everyone has better tax systems that we do.

One more thing, just to stir the pot a bit more. One reason companies in other countries can compete against ours is that they don’t have to pay for health care—since it is provided by the government.

I agree--we should get rid of employer-provided healthcare insurance in this country. Everyone should purchase health insurance on the open market.

You sell insurance or something. The problem would come with the individual employee would lose more money that way due to having to pay individual rates instead of group discount rate that employers pay. Employers would love this because it saves them money, but the emplyee's would be in a worse financial situation. Especially if the employer doesn't increase how much they pay employee's to match what they are paying in insurance.

The government has passed laws and legislations that protect employees rights that have made unions outdated, but there was a time they were needed. It sounds good to let free market control everything, but it's to easy to manipulate. Free market left to its own devices can leads to monopoly's, lower wages, worse working conditions and higher poverty rates.

    Re: Report Card

Maybe this is all part of a grand scheme........Maybe if we make it crappy enough to come here, live here, and work here. Everyone will stop crossing our borders illegally and we will get our country back. The problem is, after we run everyone off, we will be so far behind we will never get back to the top of any of those lists.

If any other of our presidents
had been so Spanish illiterate as to refer to
"Cinco de Cuatro" in front of the Mexican ambassador

flying low over millions of people followed by
a jet fighter in downtown Manhattan causing

If any other of our presidents
had failed to send relief aid to flood victims
throughout the Midwest, with more people killed
or made homeless than in New Orleans, would you
want it made into a major ongoing Political issue
with claims of racism and incompetence?

If any other of our presidents
had created the positions of 32 Czars
who report directly to him, bypassing
the House and Senate on much of
what is happening in America ,
    would you have approved?

If any other of our presidents
had ordered the firing of the CEO
of a major corporation, even though he
had no constitutional authority to do so,
    would you have approved?

    So, tell me again,
what is it about Obama that
makes him so brilliant and impressive?

    Can't think of anything?
    Then you'd better start worrying.
He's done all these things in 28 months --
and you have less than 19 months
to come up with an answer.

Every statement and action in this email
    is factual and correctly attributable
    to Barrack Hussein Obama.
Every bumble is a matter of record

    Re: Report Card

I've tried to be a Republican all my life, but find myself periodically switching my voter registration back and forth between Republican and Independent. Seems like the Repubs talk a good game, but really they are not so different from the Demos when the rubber meets the road. I've been constantly disappointed by the Republicans, and am currently registered as an Independent.

    Case in point:
Repubs and Demos go behind closed doors and come out to make an announcement. 38 Billion $ in budget cuts. Boehner is beaming as he makes the announcement; Obammer looks not that unpleased. Then we learn that the "cuts" for the most part are smoke and mirrors and according to the Congressional Budget Office, the REAL cuts will add up to a whopping 352 million $. wow.

It's like watching a puppet show where the puppet on the left and the puppet on the right are constantly fighting one another, and I'm pulling for the puppet on the right to win, and then I look behind the curtain and the same dude is operating both puppets, one on each hand.

Maybe David Stockman has it right ?? Deficit reduction is a flim-flam ??

Glenn Beck opened my eyes to this. It is all about Progressivism. There are Progressive Demos and Progressive Republicans. They both believe in big government, just the Demos want to do everything now and Republicans want to ease their way into it.

Check out this video from Nancy Pelosi complaining about the Tea Party representatives (who are not progressive Republicans). She wants progressive Republicans to take back the party so elections want matter so much (because both parties will share the same values again):

Very true as the GOP Rhinos/Progressive Republicans have been killing the true GOP. But it's in the process of being taken over by the Tea Party types.

had failed to send relief aid to flood victims
throughout the Midwest, with more people killed
or made homeless than in New Orleans, would you
want it made into a major ongoing Political issue
with claims of racism and incompetence?

If any other of our presidents
had created the positions of 32 Czars
who report directly to him, bypassing
the House and Senate on much of
what is happening in America ,
    would you have approved?

If any other of our presidents
had ordered the firing of the CEO
of a major corporation, even though he
had no constitutional authority to do so,
    would you have approved?

    So, tell me again,

what is it about Obama that
makes him so brilliant and impressive?

    Can't think of anything?
    Then you'd better start worrying.
He's done all these things in 28 months --
and you have less than 19 months
to come up with an answer.

Every statement and action in this email
    is factual and correctly attributable
    to Barrack Hussein Obama.
Every bumble is a matter of record
    and completely verifiable.

Damn, now I'm depressed. I knew some of that but not all of the above...
