Very sad. On the other hand, they might be competitive in 2A the next 2 years because they will have a 4A enrollment.
From what I have been told they have consolidated Shongoloo,Serepta,Cotton Valley, and Spring Hill. Each school will now only have certain grades. If that is true then first-third graders will all have to be bussed to Shongoloo. Does anyone know if that is correct?
well no more famerville farmers it is now the union parish farmers
This consolidation business is a tough situation.
As I understand it the mascot is what the students came up with. For the school's colors, the students of each school got to choose one of their old colors, no school could have two of their old colors. The North Webster name is trying to change the focus and help the students from each community buy-in to a new identity. No worse than being named North DeSoto High School.
From what I am hearing, overall the students kind of like the new name and mascot since there's no going back. But some parents and alumni are having a problem.
And don't forget, just because this is the current plan doesn't mean it's going to stay this way. The Federal judge still has to approve it and he could reject the whole thing and come up with something else.
The folks in Doyline may not be home free yet.
Several years back they merged the Calhoun and Pinecrest and Woodlawn communities and came up with West Ouachita High School in Cadeville.
Now, the Calhounites are begging for a high school of their own . . . back to Calhoun High School. They'll probably get it cuz the Don, Don doesn't want another West Monroe highschool sucking away from his talent pool.

I don't understand why they didn't keep lumberjacks as the mascot. I knew a lot of kids from those towns because they all came to Springhill on Saturday night. Played baseball against a bunch of them in the summer. Those were good times. I know that Sarepta and Shongaloo are really upset with them closing their schools.
No one on the north end of the parish likes the situation. As far as that goes, I don't think anyone in the parish who's being moved likes what's happening. But if you drive through Shongaloo or Cotton Valley there's hardly anyone left. The Sarepta area's population is a bit better, but the federal court mandates are an undeniable issue for any school that is heavily weighted toward any one race. Jones and Stewart elementary schools were predominently minority and both have been closed and that community isn't very happy either.
Its a bitter pill for sure.
I have hated Springhill since my senior year in high school. They were our only district loss. It is a sad day with their passing into history.
I was one of the first North Caddo grads in 56. There were a number of fights at first; however things worked out for the good and I have many friends from that first Class.
