A story by David Flores posted on San Antonio's KENS-TV (Channel 5) website today (6-3-2011) spotlights two teacher-coaches who are retiring from the city's Lanier High and one is Linda Pennington, a Louisiana Tech graduate. The other is Lyn Boehme and each have been teachers for 43 years.

Pennington has "coached girls track and cross country coach for 30 years after moving to Antonio from Louisiana in 1981." At one time she also coached the boys track team.

Not only is Lanier "an inner-city school" but Pennington and he ex-husband adopted one of her students after she lived with them her senior year.

Pennington a native of Springhill and has bachelor's and master's degrees from Louisiana Tech. "She began her coaching career at Byrd High School in Shreveport, La., and also coached at Slidell High School in Slidell, La., before moving to San Antonio."
