We have surpassed Tulane and they are not happy about it. They know we would stomp them into the ground and prove to every recruit in S Louisiana we surpassed them. They rarely beat us for recruits and this would make it even more difficult for them. It is a wise business decision for them... Don't prove you are weak and inferior to La Tech.
If we played them in the dome, they'll get embarrassed by the Tech to Tulane fan ratio.
While I completely agree that we would stomp a mud hole in them now I also know (when I take my Blue tinted glasses off) that we have had some pretty bad teams the last decade. This would be a fun rivalry though. This would even be a good State Fair Game pulling both S. La and N. La together. Heck, I would concede the first game in N.O. to get this going. But we need to bigger contract than 1-1.
"After what we did for them following the hurricane ... that one really hurt," Van De Velde said.
Hopefully this was spoken off the record and was inserted by mistake.
I rather enjoyed the somewhat harsh tone Jimmy had toward Tulane in this article. Tulane's being a bunch of jerks for not wanting to play after what we did for them, just like Bruce said. It's pretty obvious since they're going to Monroe. They think they can punk us the way we punk ULM. Maybe they're just admitting they're on ULM's level and not ours... :icon_wink:
I'm not hurt at all. They were ungrateful jerks when they were here and they were ungrateful jerks when they left and they remain ungrateful jerks. Next time New Orleans goes underwater (and it will) they can go camp out on Bayou Desiard in the Hen House.
No good deed goes unpunished, my friends.
It's unprofessional for an representative of Tech to imply that Tulane owed us anything. The fact that BVDV had zero involvement in that situation should have been enough for him NOT to comment on the hurricane situation. He could have bashed them in many ways without bringing up our unconditional support of a neighbor in time of need.
