No. But it is very naive to think being members of NATO, UN, EU, or any other supranational organization prevents a country from actually doing anything.

When is Iraq going to pay us the $900 billion it cost us to set up democracy in their country?
(Talk about a fool and his money being easily separated.)
What exactly did the US gain by invading Iraq????????????????????????????
"All roads lead to Putin" -- Thomas Jefferson
Well, it pissed you off. That's good enuff for me!
I suspect that "democracy" in Iraq will eventually turn into the same kind of "democracy" that they have in Iran. All you neo-cons will be choking on your own vomit then. Just a matter of time with those Islamic countries to go from secular to religious.
Remember how GWB's associates were saying how the Iraqi oil money will repay the US Treasury? Of course that was when the invasion was only a few months old and there was the "mission accomplished" high-five chatter coming from the WH. Boy, oh boy, talk about foreign policy clowns and military idiots.
Off topic, but the stimulus money did what it was entended to do which was prevent the USA from sliding into a major depression, as if the GWB major recession isn't bad enough
"All roads lead to Putin" -- Thomas Jefferson
Don't lie. "Mission accomplished" had nothing to do with Bush and everything to do with the USS Abraham Lincoln.
Check your notes. The WH had an advanced team on the carrier and they allowed the sign to stay up. The reality was after our swift destruction of Saddam's army the White House was figuring that the invasion would be a repeat of the Gulf War.
Even you know that a top Army General told the White House before the invasion that they would need at least 350k soldiers on the ground in Iraq after the shooting stop in order to maintain order and secure the numerous ammo dumps, etc. That advice was totally rejected by the WH saying that the Iraqis would welcome us with flowers and open arms.
"All roads lead to Putin" -- Thomas Jefferson
None of that changes that "mission accomplished" was for the USS Abraham Lincoln. Just an unfortunate photobomb.
Give it up, buddy. GWB said on the carrier that this was the end of major combat operations in Iraq when in reality they were just beginning. Now if that isn't "mission accomplished" I don't know what is.
"All roads lead to Putin" -- Thomas Jefferson
Another fallacy. Major combat operations for what is now known as OIF 1 was over. The invasion was a success. The Iraqi military was defeated. The despot was on the run. Everything that happened afterwards is a separate conflict. OIF 1 was against the state of Iraq. OIF 2 through OND was against an insurgency. 2 distinct operations.
And STILL, "mission accomplished" had nothing to do with Bush and everything to do with the USS Abraham Lincoln.
I never said that the invasion wasn't a success, it was the post-invasion management and planning that was a total and complete screw up. And they are all part of the same package.
Anyway, you are hung up on a banner and not looking at what the thinking was in the White House at that time. They were thinking "mission accomplished." And if you can't see that then go look again.
"All roads lead to Putin" -- Thomas Jefferson
Monads have more intelligence than you.
There were 2 separate wars fought in Iraq.
Though I agree in princple, the post-invasion management and planning have nothing to do with the discussion beyond further establishing a separate conflict.
It does not matter what you assume they were thinking. "Mission accomplished" refers only to the banner. At no point did Bush utter those words in his speech. They only claim he made is the "major combat operation in Iraq have ended," a factually true statement at the time. Liberal spin and revisionist history does not change that.
I don't think that even Tyler would agree with your reasoning. (Sorry for that punch below the belt.)
"There was two separate wars fought in Iraq". No, there was only one invasion and one conflict, and they are one and the same. GWB and his buddies didn't have a clue about what was going to happen after his "mission accomplished" speech on the carrier.
"All roads lead to Putin" -- Thomas Jefferson
Sure, and the Iraq war prevented Saddam from manufacturing WMDs and blowing up the whole world, which would have happened on August 21st 2009 at 4:23 AM. Hey, I like the democrat way...use unproved - and unprovable - statements with little to no merit and present them as fact, then let the lemmings start repeating them as if they are fact.
