A NASA spacecraft is just days away from blasting off on a 400-million-mile trip to Jupiter on a mission to find out what makes the largest planet in our solar system tick.
The Juno probe is poised to launch Friday (Aug. 5) atop an unmanned Atlas 5 rocket which is set for an 11:34 a.m. EDT (1534 GMT) liftoff from the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida. Weather forecasts predict a 70 percent chance of good weather for the planned launch, NASA officials said.

    - $1.1 billion
    - first probe to visit the gas giant planet since 2007
    - "We're about to start our journey to Jupiter to unlock the secrets of the early solar system,"

NASA has way too much money to spend. How much has Jupiter changed since 2007? Really, we spent that much to discover the "secrets of the early solar system" again? The secrets of the early solar system needs to start turning out something other than velcro and Tang.

2007 was the probe, New Horizon, which was just a flyby to pick up speed on the way to Pluto. This is the first probe to really study Jupiter since Galileo in 2003.

No, but it is a bluff to get the Martians to join. Martians HATE Jupitarians and will do anything to prevent their progress.

The WAC with Martians would be a weaker conference than the Sunbelt. Hell, they currently don't even have a football program and the current economy on Mars doesn't look good for funding a new program!

The time zone difference is going to be a tough sell to ESPN.

It would be no different than when the NFL plays in England. The games will be played early (or really late) on Mars, but it will be average 6/7 pm kickoff here (at least, in the central time zone).
