As a Raider fan, very mixed feelings on this. At his prime, he earned the nickname "Genius" and totally changed the game and was ahead of his peers. But he hung on way too long, at least a decade. As a result the team went down the drain. I wished he had stepped down a long time ago, but he was way ahead of his time and was quite the innovator for the most part. Prayers for the family and hoping the team finally gets some quality leadership and starts to improve.
not making light of a man passing, but it is a shame that he went when his team was actually starting to put things together.
In all seriousness -
Al Davis is more responsible for the game we have today than anyone else, he MADE the modern day NFL and forced them to absorb the AFL...
Truly a pioneer that just hung on way too long and that has dimmed this generation's view of him -

He also rocked the red smoking jacket. I'm sure he was good friends with Hef.
