    IF.....

Boise and AFA join with C. Fla., SMU and Houston in joining the BE, this is what I think will happen:

    1. All indications are that UTEP is now agreeable to join the MWC and will be invited to do so.

    2. USU will also be invited into the MWC, which will restore the MWC to 10 teams and effectively end the WAC as a viable football conference.

    3. CUSA will add FIU and UNT and stop at 10 for now hoping some "bigger game" will become available later when the Big 12 and SEC finally
complete their expansion. If better opportunities do not materialize at a later date, CUSA could turn to Tech, or "best available" at that time as part of an expansion to 12.

Assuming the loss of Boise and AFA (which is not a foregone conclusion currently, but is still probable), and that UTEP does move to the MWC (which is quietly desired by CUSA) CUSA is unlikely to immediately return to 12 teams in the short-term because to do so would probably require the addition of three 'belt schools as well as Tech. It is far more likely that CUSA will simply regain a Florida presence by adding FIU and stopping.

The B12 has its eye on BYU and ND. Even if they lose Missouri they can afford to be patient as Texas continues to "work" on ND. So whatever the B12 does it is most likely that it will not affect Tech. But the SEC that is more impatient to get its 14th and quit. If that team is Missouri, it will not impact Tech. But if it is an ACC team, then the fallout probably would affect us and for the good. But again, any SEC action that could affect Tech will not be an action that will rescue us in the immediate future.

Tech's near-term chance of a CUSA invitation is becoming distressingly small and Reneau's inactivity further reduces even that small chance.

I don't think "bigger game" ever comes. If WVU and Louisiville leave the Big East in the future, they just invite ECU and Temple or Memphis and we are probably in at that point.

It's important to keep giving and get Q4E rolling.

The new stadium allows for some chest-thumping, but market is the reason.

    Pretty much.

It takes a team with pretty good market penetration to give a conference a new media market if they have never been there. It takes much less to maintain a media market if the primary source moves on. CUSA has way to much invested in DFW in TV revenue, branding and recruiting to just let it whither away. I am more curious if both the MWC and CUSA are interested. If so, it might mean one more spot potential spot opens up.

I hope you are not correct.

I am hoping SJSU, USU, NMSU, UI join the MWC and they go to 12 teams with some non-football playing member. I also hope CUSA adds LTU, UNT, FIU. Belt adds UTSA, TSU.

CUSA keeps current TV deal (if they dont have 12 most likely revenue goes down)
MWC increases revenue because in essence it swallows the WAC TV inventory (thus the tv dollars)and adds championship game
    Belt stays same
    WAC is gone

I would be happy with that outcome and think both TSU and UTSA landing in the Belt would be good for all parties. Not sure outside of USU what happens in the MWC.. But regardless how things are shaping up the WAC is dead.

    Re: IF.....

The last CUSA/MWC release stated that they wanted "at least" 22 teams. That would mean 11/11 or 12/12 for 24. That is a lot of teams, especially since both will most likely be losing a couple each. CUSA staying at 10 is not what I am thinking.

This will help us get the bid as well.

I'm thinking the best thing that could happen for us is for the Big XII to go ahead and take some teams from the Big East so that ECU can get out of there. If that happens, I think we're in CUSA for sure.

A 22 team alliance all but assures our spot in CUSA. I don't see us being stepped over because CUSA is waitin for a better team to pop up.

    Re: IF.....

CUSA/MWC is angling for enough teams to fairly represent the best of "the non-AQ Div. 1" teams so that it's champion, however determined, will receive an automatic BCS bid with the number of BCS bowls increasing by one (Jerry's World).

Whether that number of teams is 20, 22 or more is still being determined. But those that don't make it in with that group might as well consider relegating sports to the intramural level because that group will be the caboose of relevant college sport.

Sombody convince you that this CUSA/MWC crap has legs? No way they that get that kind of guarantee from the current AQs...ever. Maybe if they have an undefeated team. If that were the case it would be unusual for a CUSA/MWC/WAC team not to qualify under current rules.
