    Re: Another Hollywood Double Standard

Well why not start this thread back up? By definition, Hollywood has been the standard for double standards.

It's been way too long since posting in this forum. Love his movies but he sure steps in it on this one. Hollywood loves the police protection and to carry themselves but their real actions are all screwed up. Where are they defending the Christians being slaughtered in the Mid-east and the babies killed by the millions in America? Clueless in Hollywood and the WH. "You will know them by their fruits." Quentin Tarantino Backlash Continues Among Police Groups

Philadelphia and Los Angeles police groups have said they will join New York City officers in a call to boycott the work of the film director Quentin Tarantino after remarks he made last weekend at a protest against police brutality.
Mr. Tarantino, an Academy Award-winning filmmaker known for a bloody crime oeuvre that includes “Reservoir Dogs,” “Pulp Fiction” and the “Kill Bill” movies, joined demonstrators in New York City on Saturday in a protest organized by RiseUpOctober. The rally called for justice for people killed by the police in shootings across the United States. In a statement on Thursday, RiseUpOctobercriticized the backlash against Mr. Tarantino.
“I’m a human being with a conscience,” Mr. Tarantino, who flew in from California for the rally, was quoted by The Associated Press. “And if you believe there’s murder going on then you need to rise up and stand up against it. I’m here to say I’m on the side of the murdered.”
After Mr. Tarantino appeared at the protest, the president of the New York City Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association, Patrick J. Lynch, called for a boycott of his films, saying in a statement that Mr. Tarantino was a “cop-hater” and someone who makes a living “glorifying crime and violence.”
William J. Bratton, the New York City police commissioner, also criticized Mr. Tarantino.
“Shame on him, particularly at this time when we are grieving the murder of a New York City police officer,” Mr. Bratton said on Monday during an interview with John Gambling on WNYM-AM. “There are no words to describe the contempt I have for him and his comments at this particular time.”
Back in Mr. Tarantino’s home base, the union representing Los Angeles police officers joined in the next day, supporting a boycott.
“We fully support constructive dialogue about how police interact with citizens,” said Craig Lally, president of the Los Angeles Police Protective League, in a statement on Tuesday. “But there is no place for inflammatory rhetoric that makes police officers even bigger targets than we already are.”

    Re: Another Hollywood Double Standard

Palin will sue Azealia Banks as she should! Can you imagine the smit storm if a white conservative tweeted something like this about a black women politico or "star"?? Most of the tirade of this black female rapper have been pulled. It was disgusting to say the least. Liberals are just freaking nasty people.

Rapper Azealia Banks ripped into Sarah Palin in a series of graphic tweets on Monday, writing that the former Alaska governor should be gang-raped by a group of black men and then “locked in a cupboard.”

In a series of since-deleted Twitter messages, the 24-year-old Harlem-born rapper suggested that Palin should be forced to perform oral sex on a group of black men, and that the incident should be filmed and uploaded to the Internet.
Media Research Center was able to screenshot the offending tweets before they were deleted:
    [Warning: Graphic Language]

Banks appeared to be responding to a satirical article from Newslo.com that jokingly quoted Palin telling an Alaska newspaper that black people “accepted [slavery] willingly” and that “negroes loved being slaves and they were doing just fine under our rules.”
The rapper seemingly realized her mistake shortly afterward, writing a brief follow-up message after deleting the initial tweets: “I can’t.
But Banks wasn’t done just yet; after reporters from TheBlaze began tweeting about the story, the rapper confronted them, claiming that they too “need some black d—k” in their lives. She also bristled at the outlet’s use of the word “rape” in reference to her initial tweets calling for Palin to be gang-raped. Banks claimed that she would “never wish a woman to be raped.”

Sarah Palin threatens to sue Azealia Banks over profanity-filled tweets

Sarah Palin is threatening to sue Azealia Banks over a series of NSFW tweets Banks sent out in response to a satirical article that claimed Palin said African-Americans “liked” slavery. On Monday, Banks saw the article and went on a profanity-filled Twitter rant. In one of the now-deleted messages, captured by Breitbart, Banks seemingly said she wished for Palin to be gang raped.
Banks later insisted she was not insinuating she wanted Palin to be raped. She also eventually issued a lengthy apology once she realized a satirical article had set her off.
The former Alaska governor posted a message on her Facebook account aimed at Banks, titled “Hey Female Rapper.” In the post she wrote, “Why don't we strengthen both our platforms and work together on something worthwhile - like condemning racism, along with empowering young women to defend themselves against a most misogynist, degrading, devastating assault perpetrated by evil men - rape.”
She also said she would scour her “young daughter's playlist” to be sure it did not contain any of Banks’ music.

Palin then issued a statement to People magazine, in which she vowed to sue Banks for the tweets.
"I've had enough of the unanswered threats and attacks against my family and me," she stated to People. "So, for the first time I'm going to enjoy the only retribution some protected 'celebrities' seem to understand – I'm suing Azealia Banks and can't wait to share my winnings with others who have gone defenseless against lies and dangerous attacks far too long."
    http://www.foxnews.com/entertainment.../?intcmp=hpbt4

    So: Here we go.
The Banks-Palin imbroglio apparently began when a satirical article presented Palin’s alleged view of slavery on March 31: “Even The French Understand That Slavery Wasn’t Our Fault, Because The Negroes Liked It.”
“I’m going to say it once again loudly and clearly: Negroes loved being slaves and they were doing just fine under our rules,” Palin definitely did not say in real life. “So, you see, you can’t really blame us for any of it, not legitimately.”
Banks, however, appeared to take the article at face value. What followed was a stream of graphic tweets on Sunday — many since deleted, but preserved by the ever-watchful right-wing Media Research Center and Breitbart — that suggested Palin engage in variety of sex acts with black men.
The outrage began. Breitbart: “Rapper Azealia Banks Calls for Sarah Palin to Be Gang-Raped by Black Men.” And Palin — though she certainly could have remained silent — responded with a lengthy message to Banks.

That's my question as well. As harsh and uncalled for as her words were, they don't seem to break any laws that I'm aware of. But, in our litigious society, it wouldn't surprise me if there's precedent out there where somebody won a suit because someone talked trash to them.

You can sue for libel (written) and slander (spoken) if something "harsh" is stated about you. And, you can win the lawsuit with documented proof it took place. However, other than the satisfaction of winning the suit, unless there was material damage, there will be little to no monetary award.

Of course, it is NOT libel/slander if it is true! That is true in all such cases.

In this particular case, I don't see any material damage to Palin. Now, if she had lost a contract, and as a result of that is deprived of compensation, then yes, a suit for libel/slander would return monetary award at least equal to the lost compensation.

But, I am not an attorney, and didn't play one on TV either, so....

Brad Pitt to Co-Chair Gun Control Awards

On May 4, actor Brad Pitt (World War Z, Fight Club, Mr. and Mrs. Smith) will co-chair the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence gun control awards gala.

The gala will be held at the Four Seasons Hotel at Beverly Hills.
The Brady Campaign is advertising the gun control gala as the “Bear Awards,” and lists Pitt and Adam McKay as co-chairs. The cheapest tickets are $500, although non-attendees are free to make donations for gun control in any amount.
The “Bear Awards” are named after Jim “Bear” Brady, former press secretary for Ronald Reagan. The awards are dedicated to honoring those who fight for more gun control restrictions for law-abiding citizens throughout America.
