I don't think so. The Big XII isn't even driving its own bus right now. Texas is. The Big XII will not get any ACC teams to jump. The core of the ACC is too strong. If 4 super-conferences are formed, the Longhorns and 3 friends (TT, OU, OSU) will have to move to form the Pac-16 leaving the Big XII searching for replacements. That bowl game really doesn't mean anything.

Re: Conference re-alignment has jumped the shark

The Big 12 could become a "driver" if they can entice Florida State, Clemson, and Va Tech to jump, and obviously, probably one more school from somewhere to get to 14. That would shore-up the Big 12 while wrecking the ACC in football. The Big Least is even more least now and on life-support to continuing being a major player in FB. So, the FSU et al move would also crush the ACC leaving the Big 10, Big 12, SEC and PAC ??? what is it, 16?

That series of moves would leave 4 major FB conferences and play right into the proposed concept of a Final Four playoff scenario. Those 4 conf champs would be the FF every year.

Now, revisiting a what-if? I posted about a year ago....what if the MWC members had stood firm and together: Utah, TCU, BYU, joined by Boazy, and a few others "good" FB schools, they might have replaced the Big Least as an AQ conference. Oh well!

You might say, so? the four schools you mentioned are, or probably will be, in an AQ conference anyway. Yeah, but they could also have a geographically sensible AQ league too.

    dawg80 and Dawg06,
You may both be right. It would seem that the Big XII is testing the waters to see if they can cause a dominoe effect that would elevate the Big XII back into the driver's seat. If FSU, Clemson, & Va Tech do jump, then building the Big XII into the BIG XVI South becomes a situation that could happen. However, if those three teams do not, then what is the point? Either way, Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and Texas Tech will have a much better understanding of what they need to do next. Smart Move on their part.
Realize also that in so doing, this action is not un-noticed by Notre Dame who will be getting even more edgey on what they need to do. My opinion is they will become a member of the Big XVI North that will include the current Big X.

As long as they have Texas, they will be considered a super conference. :icon_wink:

And while I doubt it will happen, I would not rule out them getting a ACC school or two. I agree that it would not make a whole lot of sense (other than $$$$), but I have not seen a whole lot commonsense in this process yet. Other than Tech to CUSA and the western schools to the MWC.

Have you learned nothing from realignment so far?????

This is absolutely correct. As one writer for the Dallas Morning News said, "which game do you think will draw the biggest crowd? The Big XII vs SEC Championship Bowl, or the Orange bowl matching the ACC vs the Big East"???

Nobody will leave the ACC for an unstable Big XII. Not FSU. Not Clemson. Not VT.

Geez guys.....I'm perplexed when I see a post like this. Where have you guys been the last week? It's already DONE.

Let me spell it out for you guys: Once the SEC finally partnered with the Big XII for a "Championship Bowl" game --similiar to what the Rose Bowl offers the PAC 12 & the Big 10-- this thing was O-V-E-R!!!!! The ACC and the Big East are officially boxed out.

Now, anybody who wants to be included in the Final 64 team format will be clamoring to get those final slots in the Big XII, the SEC, the Big 10 and the PAC 10.

Now.......consider yourselves officially up to speed.:icon_wink:

Would you like to place a little wager on that? The Big XII --with it's new TV contract-- is a lot more stable than the ACC now.

The fact that YOU don't get it doesn't mean that they don't. This is all about TV ratings. And a Big XII vs SEC is a championship Bowl game is a great alternative to the Rose Bowl matchup of the Big 10 vs the PAC 12. By comparison, a matchup between the ACC and the Big East in the Orange Bowl is a joke.

Since there is so much money to be made in basketball, with less capital expenditures required, I can see the BE and ACC focusing more on hoops. Especially, if the raids continue on their better FB members. In other words, there is no use for the BE and ACC to TRY to fight a battle they can't win....football. Just wave the white flag on the gridiron, and seize hoops. Yeah, both the BE and ACC will keep FB, and all other sports, but they will accept being relegated to a 2nd Tier status in FB.

That is IF Florida State leads an exodus out of the ACC.

That's EXACTLY what I believe will happen. Duke, North Carolina, Wake Forest, etc.... are basketball FIRST schools, as exemplified by the ACC's recent TV contract that heavily favors the basketball schools.

Re: Conference re-alignment has jumped the shark

As this realignment circus has been going on, I have been wondering if the big 4 were padding thier conferences with everyone they want to take to a new league. I believe the recent influx of FCS schools in the FBS has caused the big 4 to thumb their nose at the rest of us. I would not be surprised if they move to a new league and start this cycle all over again.
