We haven't had any time to clean out our pond since we have been working on deer stands and shooting lanes. We haev lily pads everywhere, no where for ducks to land.
deer/hog hunted on darbonne creek sunday morning. there were quite a few wood ducks come down the creek and land near where i was. I hadnt shot around my lab so we took her out that afternoon and introduced her to it. did pretty well, last shot my wife was standing 3' from us and the lab didnt flinch. took her to lincoln parish pond and had her swim out for a few dummies. If Brendan could get his first duck saturday morning and Mistey could make the retrieve, i would be one PROUD pappa.
If you have water it is game on for ya.....
never seen so many specks in one spot as I did in Bradley last week. Quite a few ducks as well.

We have been pumping since August in a wetland that usually holds lots of water. We still only have about 1/4 of the area covered in water that we need. But we're gonna go, and hope they fly by to see what's going on.
Good old Memorial Gym
We have been pumping off and on for the last 2 weeks. After probably $5,000 in diesel and pump usage fees, we have some water. If it stays dry like last year, we will hammer them.
last year we had pumped up but it was dry and nothing else around us was holding water. thought it was gonna be GREAT, but, since there wasnt other water around we feel like they didnt have enough area to hold them and they passed on to places that did.
Started pumping yesterday and got 1 1/2 to 2 inches of rain. Already had some standing water in the field last weekend so the diesel bill should be cheap this year.
We opened the west zone on Toledo Bend this weekend. 5 limits saturday morning and 2 limits this morning. Took my 5 month old lab for the first time and he picked up 17 birds for me without ever seeing a duck before. Ready to open the East zone next weekend in Jones, LA.
I so wish I still had a place to duck hunt! Good luck to you guys...
