I think he is saying this stuff because he doesn't want anybody leaving and screwing up their television contract. I think it is completely self-serving.
Neinas is a mover and a shaker. Big 12 would do well to keep him in that spot for a while.
I think it makes sense. Why not just go with ranking the teams and award them accordingly. The 14th ranked Big East champ doesn't deserve the Fiesta Bowl if Boise, TCU, Houston, and Utah are all ranked ahead of them. Same goes for the second best SEC team if the champ plays for the title and another team is ranked ahead of them. They don't deserve the sugar bowl birth.
I'm not saying it doesn't make sense. It just seems like he is trying to put the breaks on realignment by discouraging any non AQs from pursuing membership in an AQ conference. Why? Does he want the Big East to collapse? Why say this now, and why haven't we heard about these discussions before. Where is this coming from? I guess I am suspicious of these conference commissioners (interim or not) coming out with something like this if it isn't self serving.
It is interesting timing. Maybe he has been saying this all the time and now has a position/podium to launch his idea from.
On the surface it sounds good, fair, and potentially gives the "little guys" an equal shot at a BCS bowl. However, anytime an AQ announces a plan to "improve" things, I am very leery about it. What are the ulterior motives and is it really a plan in disguise to give non-AQs even less access to the big time? Sorry, just cannot help but think that the AQs will not give up power or money without their feet being held to the fire.
He is saying this in hopes of the destroying the Big East as a AQ football conference and thus help out the Big 12.
''Don't be a bad dagh..."
Is Dodd a Charlie McCarthy with these B12 Commissioners? Sure seems that way.
