    Question How much longer...

until Spoon hires an assistant coach to replace Coach Felder?

Is Barmore gonna help us out or not? Surely he would fill in until Spoon finds a permanent replacement.

Something needs to be done ASAP because this shorthanded coaching staff is not getting it done.

Barmore was intently watching the game last night from high up in the blue seats.

    Re: How much longer...

It's the same old/same old. The same explanations/excuses that were offered up during the Chris Long era are being offered now. If you don't believe me, go back and read the defenders' posts. They use the EXACT phrases and words they use now. While I do agree with them that the team will likely get better and perhaps win the WAC, that means less now than it meant last season. The WAC is an empty shell of a conference. Winning the conference isn't something to hang a banner on.

This is the third year under Spoon. Third year. How much longer does she get a pass? Will a win at home against a weak LSU team be the salvation of the season? Is winning the WAC and getting blown out in the first round considered rebuilding?

No, I am not one who has expectations that this program will ever dominate as it once did. That is not reality. But the reality of where the program is today is a far cry from where it was even last season. Last year it was "we lost Shanavia" and now it's "we lost Adrienne." Keep coming up with excuses. Keep defending the program as it sinks further into oblivion. What has been LOST is the core of what the program was: passion and pride. This team does not play with passion, there is no leadership, there is no pride, and no identity. That is a direct reflection on the coaching staff. The two wins this season are not something to boast about. They were against weak teams. The losses, especially the losses on the home court, further illustrate the lack of direction and focus of the program.

This team is painful to watch. There are those who post on this board and talk of all the "talent" this team possesses. So I ask them: If the team has the talent, then what is the problem? If it isn't the players, then it must be the coaches. Park is sorely missed. And I'm beginning to understand more and more whey he chose to leave.

Who is the coach for the post players? It seems strange that our two tallest players get very little playing time. For those of you who go to the games, are Anderson and Langston too slow for college basketball, or are they not being developed, or do they not give enough effort?

Obviously, Tspoon thinks that not playing them gives the Techsters their best chance to win, but just curious as to what some of you think about the situation.

    Re: How much longer...

The Techsters' two wins this season come against UALR (3-5) and Old Dominion (1-8). They lost to Western Kentucky (who had not won a home game this season prior to beating the Techsters).

Now the Techsters head off to face Houston (0-8). This OOC schedule appeared stronger than it was at the outset. It has proved to be mostly bottom-dwellers from other conferences, and yet the Techsters are 2-6 even against relatively weak competition. (Alabama excluded).

There are 7 remaining games on the OOC schedule prior to the depleted WAC play. This team needs to go (minimum) 4-3 or serious questions should be asked regarding coaching staff and direction of the program. The "youth" excuse is b/s. The team starts 3-4 upperclassmen who have had playing time and a 6th year senior. Hopefully the Houston game will be a blowout as it should be. They suck. I'm sure there will be a few on here who say they are a good team, but that too is b/s. The Techsters need to dominate the bottom-dwelling Houston team to demonstrate that there is a chance of seeing a winning season.

Off to the worst start in program history? Seems that way.

Certainly, a win tomorrow over Moo State would help. But, even so, no one can explain or defend some of the losses already experienced. I agree, there is no passion, focus, "refuse to lose" attitude, which I thought would never be an issue under Spoon. Xs and Os are one thing, and important! but, your own determination and pride is something each of us controls for ourselves. And, add in some of the technical issues, like FTs and unforced errors....very disappointing.

    Re: How much longer...

Funny hearing the WAC described as depleted in women's basketball when the only team that left for this season (Boise State) is currently #252 in RPI. That would place right in the middle of the WAC right now. We are far enough into the season to see that the WAC is just not very good outside of Fresno State.

    Current WAC RPIs...
    Fresno State 25
    Utah State 204
    Hawai'i 236
    Idaho 244
    Louisisana Tech 274
    New Mexico State 279
    San Jose State 322
    Nevada 327

Tech's three wins are over teams 245 (UALR), 221 (ODU), and 314 (Houston) in RPI. Its losses are to teams 89 (MO State), 168 (ORU), 65 (Seton Hall), 113 (Alabama), 39 (Tulane), and 227 (WKU). Tech's schedule so far ranks #253, so 3-6 is underachieving no matter how you slice it.

The only dimly bright side of the WAC being the #27 conference is that #23-#25 are the Belch, the MWC, and CUSA.

Fresno will beat us silly this year....20-30 pts blowouts. But the rest of the WAC is so weak, I HOPE we can end the season with an overall winning record. That's all that matters, keep that streak alive. It's the one remaining accomplishment. When that goes, Louisiana Tech's WBB program will have nothing left.

    Re: How much longer...

As disappointing as the start of this season has been from a fan perspective, I don't think Fresno will dominate the Techsters. You may be correct, and looking at both teams today it would seem your prediction is spot on. That said, the history between the two sometimes negates the talent level and the passions position the outcome.

Looking at the schedule it is difficult to comprehend the Techsters not ending with a winning record. The schedule is padded just enough with bottom-dwellers that it almost guarantees a winning record, so it seems that will stand. A strong showing today against MSU (even with a loss) and strong showing against an overrated and very young LSU squad would go a long way toward demonstrating what some on this board say about the talent level and coaching staff. I will gladly admit I was wrong once the coaching staff demonstrates leadership and not reactionary play, and the same goes for the team. Right now, it's on the shoulders of Spoon. Whether or not her passion and star-appeal translate to actual coaching ability is yet to be seen, in my opinion, and regarding talent, well, the proof is in the play. Let's see what happens in the next 4-5 games.

    Bump.

When Mulkey lost a coach at the last minute, Barmore immediately came to her rescue.

Spoon lose a coach at the last minute, and it looks like we are going to play the entire season down an assistant coach while Barmore just sits and watches the Techsters struggle.

    What's the deal?
