    Dykes Staying!

Dykes recently interviewed with U of H and is among Chad Morris and Tony Levine as one of the top 3 candidates for the job. What are people around the La Tech program hearing about this? Is Dykes a guy that wants to be at La Tech long term or one that wants to climb the coaching ladder?

I'm sure he wants to climb the coaching ladder. Which means Houston is a no.

Didn't Chad Morris just sign a new 4 year contract at Clemson?

I think he will eventually, probably after next season, climb the ladder. I don't see him making a lateral move to a commuter college like U of H.

    Dykes mentioned here:

However, this is not the only guy I have heard that makes a case for hiring from within. I have seen that sentiment on several sites. Hopefully Rhoades is listening....

    Not very solid information.

    Re: Dykes

Big East is lateral to the WAC? New stadium on the way and two straight seasons of sellouts in Houston. Big East is not the Big 12 but its hardly a lateral move right? Not trying to start fight or anything of the like, just was looking for some good discussion on Dykes whom I think would be an excellent hire if Houston could get him.

Morris just signed an extension for 1.3mil as OC for Clemson, his contract has zero buyout if he leaves to be a HC. U of H is prepared to spend up to $2.0 so Morris could improve his income and become a head coach.

Levine is the interim coach, he will also be considered. If he doesn't get the job he will go to A&M to be Sumlins ST coordinator.

    Re: Dykes

Clemson signed Morris long term to keep him from going to Ohio State to be Meyer's OC. He would leave Clemson for a HC job if it pays $1.5+. He may just hold out for an even better job however after next year.

He's coaching a school, not a conference. You can try to convince us that he may be interested in UH if you want to, but none of us are buying it. We gave you our opinion, and that is that he will not leave for a school like UH. We could be wrong, but there is no point in you trying to convince us otherwise.

Just looking for discussion, not trying to "convince you" of anything. I like Dykes and think he would do well at UH.

Why do you think he would stay at La Tech if offered by UH?

Take a look at our schedule next year with the players coming back. We have a chance of going 12-0 or 11-1. Then he will leave for a bigger school.

I'd call it a lateral move if UH wasn't moving to the BE. Since they are, I think its a step up.

    Re: Dykes

WhiteBear, the thinking here is that while he could go to UH, he is more likely to hang around next year (everything is pointing to a monster season for us) and then jump to Texas Tech. A lot of folks feel that next year will be Tubby's last in Lubbock. Not a diss against UH, but just the prospect that he holds out and ups his price for TT, which as you know, he has a lot of ties to.

And of course, by 10 o'clock tonight, we could be reading the official announcement that Sonny is the new HC at UH. In both conference realignment and coaching hires, while some things end up being unexpected, they can never be totally ruled out.
