    Coach Dykes

We all have heard the rumors about you being considered for the southern miss job and now Houston but consider this a plead to stay! We all know that Tech's coaching job is a stepping stone for up and coming coaches but please complete at least one more year with the bulldogs! With the talent coming back and the fact that you nearly beat both southern miss and Houston that were top heavy in veteran players and seniors, your La Tech team will be in a better position to not only compete next year but to win these type of games! This will elevate your stock for future jobs, so I and other Tech fans want at least one more year! Please guve us one more year!

Why just 1 more year though? Why aren't more Tech people asking this question? Is it because it really doesn't matter? I'm being serious....can somebody explain to me how Dykes leaving after next year's season is NOT a big deal? Thanks.

if that Texas Tech job becomes available then he's probably got a good shot at going home to Lubbock

Personally, I'm sick and tired of coaches using Tech as a stepping stone. Tech football will never achieve greatness without long term stability. I want a coach who wants to build a program and stick with it. A la Chris Petterson, Gary Patterson, Pat Hil (yes I know he got fired) etc.

I will smash your face into a car windshield, and then take your mother, Dorothy Mantooth out for a nice seafood dinner, and never call her again.

You are bound to become sick and tired of being sick and tired then. Just about any quality hire Tech can make will be under these conditions...it's the way things are.

I would hope that we would, by making that an expensive proposition. Dykes would be an asset to the program, but not such an asset as to run that particular risk. It's what Baylor did when they signed Briles.
University of Houston '01. Any references to "we" or "us" likely refer to UH. Cheers!

If Houston is dumb enough to take Dykes - an offense guy - who has won games becuase of the D then let them. Hell pay us the 800k buyout. Sad becuase we should have beat UH this year inspite of our offense. Dooley all over again...

    Re: Coach Dykes

the only way we stop playing the role of stepping stone is if a coach signs a contract with a buyout that is really large and a promise to return to The Joe with his new team. When that type of contract is signed, we will keep a coach because no one will hire him away, at least for 5-7 years.

No amount of money towards a buyout will help keep a coach from OSU, Texas, SEC schools, etc. It's much more effective to make a coach WANT to stay. Yes, money is a big factor. AQ status and school history are also big factors. But if a school's upper management gives him everything he needs and wants, he will be more inclined to stay. Tech will have to change more things than contract details to make it less of a stepping stone school.

I agree, but at this point, all we have to bargain with is ink and paper.

We will be a stepping stone as long as we have a small budget. It's gonna take the right guy plus 1.5 mil to get a long term guy.
