Yet some how we always finish last in that overall cup thingy. Kinda makes you wonder about who is keeping score.

Sports like cross country and volleyball bring our score down. If we were just average in those two sports we would be sitting on the top half of the standings.

We got a pretty good bowling team, but the other WAC schools don't participate in it.

And most of the WAC schools (other than Hawaii) participate in more WAC sports than us. Hawaii sponsors some strange left coast sports.

Ok, go ahead and blast me for what I'm about to say - I DON'T CARE. While I like to excel at everything, a thousand women's titles don't mean a thing if our men are not winning. Women's sports, at best, reinforce the perception of a school's sports program, but they can never be a SUBSTITUTE for a strong men's program. With regard to a school's athletic reputation, women's sports can only be a footnote as in "Louisiana Tech is a non-AQ school and competes as a mid-major, but they are nationally recognized in women's athletics."

I am not going to blast you, because I think you have a point. The problem is that we have NOT won in the other sports. We need to do that, but take NOTHING away from what our Women have done. They have worked hard to achieve a status that we should be extremely proud of. Maybe the men's program's should use this as an example. At least we are trying to get the right coaches in football and MBB. That is a start, but more has to be done. Our WBB programs are top notch and we should be proud of that too. Even if it isn't the revenue maker and marketing tool we need, there is NO use in pitting one against the other. Be proud that we have Spoon bringing our WBB back to where we need it. Now, just do the same in men's sports. At least, I can brag to others about our WBB. Can't do that in football and MBB. That makes me angry, but I will never demean what our WBB teams have accomplished and to those young ladies, my hat goes off!

So, we aren't in total disagreement. I just think we need to start understanding that one doesn't depend on the other and be proud of every sport that lives up to what we want. :icon_wink:

I'm glad you can do that. I don't run in a circle of friends that cares about WBB or womens sports in general. Bringing that up would only get me laughed at.

But that being said you are very correct. It doesn't take away from what these ladies and Coach Stanley have just accomplished. I said this in another thread but that guy is one hell of a coach and we are blessed to have him at Tech!! Good job Coach!!!

I think we should be proud and brag about all aspects of our University, whether it's WBB, WT&F, Q4E, nano engineering, eco-marathon, concrete canoe, salary rankings, grad rates, ACT scores, or tiddlywinks. There is much more to our University than football and MBB.

Just keepin it real. LFR knows what I am talking about. And attendance backs up what I am saying.

When you are at work or at a party talking with your buddies and they are talking about how their football teams look you don't bring up the Lady Techsters.

And WBB just doesn't come up around anyone I know. Glad we do well. Hope we do better. Just not a big topic amongst my friends. If it is amongst yours than more power to you. Your missing LFR's point. Things like that are great. They help round out our athletic program and make us look more complete and committed. But it has to go alongside MBB and FB. It doesn't stand alone.

Now this probably isn't the right thread to state what LFR stated. I wouldn't have done that. But it doesn't make what he said incorrect.
