    Lake Levees

Does anyone know of a good way to keep beavers (of the rodent variety) from boring into levees surrounding a lake? We are having a problem at our private lake of keeping them out. I don't have time to sit out there and shoot them one by one, but traps are an option if they work. Any good repair recommendations? I'm thinking about filling them back in, then laying hardened bags of sack-crete along the slopes to prevent washing.

I've heard Wildlife and Fisheries will put you a smaller alligator (6-7 ft.) in there to clean them out....might be worth a call.

There's a professional trapper that's been cleaning them out of ours the last 4-6 weeks. He traps and then moves them (kills some). But the males can roam 20+ miles for a new home when they are kicked out of their dens when young.

The neighbors wouldn't go for an alligator. We just had to have one toted off. He decided that he wanted to get some sun in the middle of the street. That one was about 8'.

Burrowing in the levee is probably more indicative of nutria than a beaver. Nightshooting/trapping are the only real solutions.

It's beavers here in Claiborne Parish and believe it or not at the Lake we have problems with dillas burrowing in the damn...

We help the local fire districts out if they have a dry hydrant in one of thier ponds that is effected by beavers - we dug out three damns and rebuilt them late this summer - if we hadn't the folks in those areas would have seen their fire insurance costs go through the roof

But as you say - a bullet is about the only true sure fire solution
