Something else to ponder.....are the jobs numbers real?

We know they are cooking the inflation numbers because they won't count food and fuel in the real numbers. Well here's another twist to the whole economy thing.....job numbers are possibly being cooked as well. A friend of mine who's son just graduated from college has been applying for jobs everywhere he can trying to get a job as a wildlife biologist. He has applied for several hundred jobs over the past year, most of them gov't. He called his guidance counselor from college the other day just to see if she had any advise to improve his results and they discussed his situation in depth. He told her how many jobs he applied for and she told him thanks for helping the gov't pad their employment numbers. She said in order to make things look better than they are, the Obama administration has decided that every job applied for will now be counted as a job created. I haven't seen anything in the news about this but with it coming from someone in a gov't position there is probably at least a little truth to it.......Be on the look out for any information regarding this. It would be interesting know if this is true....

No way! Not even obummer and the democraps would try something like this. Applied-for = job-created? Nah! ain't buying it.

There has been AT LEAST a net loss of 1.6 million jobs since obummer took office. That can be documented and proven. But, in reality, the number is probably substantially higher. He is the worst prez in history, which is why Jimmy Carter has been seen flashing his pearly whites recently.

However, as mentioned in another thread, the US in general, the South in particular, is poised to see a return of manufacturing jobs. All our new prez/congress has to do is lower corporate taxes and regulations, just a tad, to encourage the floodgates to open.

Back to the topic, no, I can't believe even obummer would try something so silly, as it will quickly be debunked and the fallout will be politically hurtful (to him and the d'craps).

I'm kind of the same mind, I just don't think they'd go there for the political back lash that it would create, but one thing I like about this board is how resourceful the folks are on here....If it "is" going on more than likely someone on here will dig it up if they know to start looking for it...........

Very, very technically, applied-for = job created. The job is there, open, but it isn't filled. But it's there and might could be argued that it wasn't there before.

Put it like this - Ruston getting that new Logan's Roadhouse. It has new jobs open that need to be filled. Very, very technically, those jobs can be counted as being jobs created, even if no one is occuppying those jobs at the moment.

    Nope.

By both US Census Bureau and SBA policy, can't count a job creation until the business actually opens.

Besides, in the Logan scenario those will be real jobs. I have a feeling, if this story is true, we're talking about someone currently on unemployment going around putting in applications and that being counted. Joe Blow puts in 10 applications, wow! 10 jobs created!

The jobs numbers have always been a farce since they don't include disaffected workers. This is jut blatant foolishness.

    JuBru,

I think he's saying that each person who applies for the job is considered applying for a separate new position.

Ie: one job at Ruston movie theater is open. 8 people apply = 8 new jobs

I guess the answer to that could easily fall in what you believe about the jobs that stimulus money saved or created. That number is simply a joke!!! So, there is nothing that could be done that would be shocking-but, we would probably hear about it.

Leaving the Twilight Zone and re-entering Reality, each State compilies its own employment and unemployment numbers.

Re: Something else to ponder.....are the jobs numbers real?

sorry, i just won't believe that the stats are cooked to the point that a job applied for = job created. if that was the case, then unemployment would be zero. the official unemployment rate only considers job seekers as being unemployed. if you aren't looking for work you aren't counted.

according to this story, looking for work = jobs created. that means all people looking for work are considered to be employed (job created)...therefore unemployment = 0%.

since unemployment is greater than 0%...the initial story cannot be accurate.

They're sure going to try as lying is their first and second nature.
