It's going to be a very tough sale for Temple to find a good coach who can keep Temple "up" in football. I would say Temples chances at CUSA (if they ever had one) have just dimmed a bit.
    Yeah.

The football/basketball is one of the big problems with Temple. My understanding is that last time around, they were dead-set against leaving the A-10 for their other sports and that was a big reason they didn't get TCU's spot. Now that Chaney is gone (he was supposed to have been the big voice against leaving the A-10), they might reconsider if they're worried enough about football. If they haven't changed their mind, though, I just don't see C*USA giving them football-only. Especially since the people that would most want Temple to join - the eastern schools - are those that would most want a more local destination (same time-zone, anyway) for non-football sports.
University of Houston '01. Any references to "we" or "us" likely refer to UH. Cheers!

And Vandy goes from Malzahn to.....who? When I think of great offensive schemes Maryland doesn't strike a bell.

And they get Wisconsin for a home game next year. Wonder if Wisconsin would be willing to come to Ruston for a beatdown? :icon_wink:

After seeing how the Florida State and Texas situations played out over the last 2 years, I didn't expect another school to do a "Head Coach-in-waiting" deal again.

The difference between the Sun Belt Conference and the MAC:

3 Sun Belt head coaches were fired in 2010 (Arkansas State, North Texas, ULL). None were hired by another school as a head coach.

3 MAC head coaches were hired by BCS AQ Conference schools. Only 1 fired in 2010.
    • Miami (OH): Mike Haywood hired by Pittsburgh
    • Northern Illinois: Jerry Kill hired by Minnesota
    • Temple: Al Golden hired by Miami (FL)

And NIU hired the DC from the Big Ten champs...

2 of the 3 Belt schools hired position coaches at BCS schools while the other hired from within...

That Maryland thing was getting kind of dicey, too.

They were kind of sweating it going into the season I think. Problem solved now, I guess.

    But I agree with him.

I never liked the Bill Stewart hire by WVA. This is what happens when you let "player sentiment" rule the roost. When Rich Rodriquez left Pat White and WVA for Michigan, the administration gave long time Assistant Coach Stewart the head coaching job in order to placate the players, who were firmly in Stewart's corner.

But Stewart was never the right guy for the head job. You could just see it every time he coached. Deep down, you just KNEW he couldn't win championships.

Lesson learned: No university should allow a group of 18-21 year old kids to make (or heavily influence) these kind of multimillion dollar decisions.

After reading that article, I'll be really surprised if Stewart coaches WVU next year.
