Exactly.......... We need a meter installed on this board that shows red for meltdown and green for elation. The other colors in between aren't really necessary, except for maybe orange (a warning of impending meltdown). There doesn't seem to be an in between on this board. :icon_wink:
I agree with the need to stop the extremist rhetoric, but going independent would be the worst case scenario. Tech would lose out on money, exposure, and respectability (college football wise on a national level).
Can you name an independent school that isn't a service academy or have a legendary history and religious affiliation, that we would like to pattern our program after.
I don't think there is a worst case scenario. There is just what happens. Whatever happens we will be fine. There are better things and worse things but it doesn't help to talk about the bad. We will be fine as an independent. We will be fine in the Wac/Sunbelt/Cusa. They will all have advantages and disadvantages. As an independent, we could become so good as a program that we get our own TV contract/ our own bowl tie in. Think positive, make the best of the situation and circumstances. If you don't think something is possible, it's not.
I just cannot believe that you would think that being independent would be worse than being in the SBC. Where were you when we were in 1-AA & played those games? They sucked & not many of our alumni are going to keep driving from Dallas, Houston, Little Rock, etc. to see those kind of games.
If we can place the other sports in the Southland we will be fine. When we play the other independents we will be on tv & by not playing belch teams we will have more people in the stands. We just have to keep growing it. We do need to get a sports network deal established though. This would help a bunch. Kind of like Hawaii, Boise & Fresno have with their local tv stations & then the games can be picked up by game plan or other networks. It can be done. I am starting to agree with some others on this board about a lack of activity with the administration in Ruston. There are many things that we could & should be doing but we are not. This scares me.
I don't know if I'd prefer the belt over independant, but I don't think going to the southland is better the the sunbelt.
Dear Lord, listen to what we are saying. Two more years of WACness, but no; we've got to worry about possibly going independent 900+ days away. [I'm just elated to think I have a chance of being alive the rest of this new (2011) year, but to the point:]
We have a very good recruitment effort that seems to be unfolding before our eyes. We have a year under the new offense, more than a handful of talent (almost as good as BD's days). Lets concentrate on seeing the DAWGS make some noise, so, when our time comes, we'll be ready.
This groupthink is getting to me. Stop it!
I'm through now
Think of how far we've come, through a valley or two, but, we are still able to move along. HOW 'Bout them DAWGS!
It's for you '88 Heck YEAH.
I thought that the Southland passed a requirement for all sports to be in that conference in response to UTSA trying to leave their non-football sports there while they pursued FBS for football a while back. If that is the case, then all this talk of TECH doing the same and independent for football will not happen. Maybe it was just for UTSA but I don't think they would pass a requirement just for one school.
