Why?
He had the audacity to not only flip a group of us off but also said "_UCK YOU" to a group of about 10 of us who made the trip to Birmingham to watch em play UAB. Rattay was so appalled by it he came over and appologized to us...
I don't care how good of a player he was, he was an ass hat of the first degree....

This is really weird. Is there any context? Like someone knew him or yelled at him or did he just see Blue t-shirts and start cussing?
In the article I referenced earlier in this thread it did talk a lot about how he had changed. He seemed to have grown up a lot.
But, yeah, I do agree with you that just because he was awesome doesn't mean he couldn't still be a jerk and that you have to "let it go." You can be an awesome football player and a terrible human. That isn't breaking news.
I must admit, I had never heard of an ass hat before this thread. But it seemed extremely funny to me everytime I read it. I just broke down and Googled "ass hat" and thanks to the Urban Dictionary I now know what it is.
One who has their head up their ass. Thus wearing their ass as a hat. Asshat![]()
What did you say to him?
It wasn't like he was flipping off Mr. and Mrs. Marbury though.
Some players, like Walter Johnson for example, you do not say anything to until the game is over.
Flipping off a group of fans, not good. Coming to play and torching UAB, good.
I'll take the good with the bad in this case. Thank you DFM and crew for getting him in the right frame of mind.

I'm well aware of that and that was my point. Crowton didn't even have a player playing at that level during their true freshman year yet you expected SD to magically produce a Troy level player in 1 to 2 months. Please. And Jason Martin was a MUCH better QB than anyone we had on our roster last year.
I respect your opinion but I have never seen the "It's the coaches job to bring in the players" statement EVER brought up after year 1. EVER. Sorry, that's just a silly statement after year one of a new coaches tenure not to even mention that he didn't even have a full recruiting season to work with.
I also think Dooley left the cupboard bare in many places. SD wasn't left with some pool of riches to work with.
Exactly. I have seen that argument used when a coach has been there like 4-6 years and is using an excuse like "we just don't have enough depth on the offensive line" then you think well "Whose job is it to get us depth on the offensive line? Try Again Coach!!"
Again I follow college football pretty close and I have never heard of that statement being used after year one. It makes no sense. That's why I wasn't sure if he was even serious at first. I still think KDaniel might be pulling my leg.
Well Dykes did sign a Jeff Garcia type QB this year and I hope the Kid comes in and sets the world on FIRE. I am not arguing anything I am just saying that Dykes had more pieces to work with than Crowton. It is only year two and I hope that we win 12 ball games. With Gary I could see the plan he was using. He built his team around Tim! Sonny does not have a QB yet.

I think Dooley had built a Run heavy Pro Style attack and that it is going to take Sonny D time to get his players here. However he has had two years to find a QB he liked and he has yet to find one. I am a TB fan and hope he gets a chance however I think that the True Freshman will start this year at some point. The freshman might be our Tim Rattay!!!!!
