This is so big I won't even think about it until the announcement actually occurs. We could likely not improve our position, but almost certainly our position will change; if not immediately then in the near future.

That is 4 spots up for grabs that those conferences will have to fill. I know no one on here will take this serious, but if all the bcs conferences have to grab teams to stay at the current number, it may not be that non-aq is left in another division. It may be that every bcs team is in a bcs conference eventually - being part of those super conferences. That will happen if all aq conferences try to stay alive through all of this. There will be very few non-aq teams not a part of it. First a raid on CUSA and MWC - then the WAC, MAC, and belt......... There might be just a handful of teams left in those 5 conferences and they will form a conference of the left-overs. The bcs would be happy and most of us will be happy. If the MWC goes aq, then the raids will be even more on the other non-aq conferences to get to 16. Of course, money talks, so better have something to offer so a super conference picks you up for the TV contract.

Solves problem there but creates another one. Three teams in west SEC means somebody in the current SEC West has to go east. The two furthest teams east in that division are Alabama and Auburn; you are never going to see one go to the other division without the other

    Hypothetical Question:

Is it possible for a conference to get big enough to get to AQ bids??? LFR do you have any idea if this is possible??

There's no precedent for it. The Pac-16 was going to try for it, but there was no way they could claim it as their right.
University of Houston '01. Any references to "we" or "us" likely refer to UH. Cheers!

No really precedence set because there really hasn't been a conference since before the first WAC schism that had 16 football schools

The University of Texas (and Texas A&M) already own the Houston college market (although it is a pro town)... As long as UT is in the Big XII, adding the University of Houston adds no additional market... We would offer the Big XII more of a market than Houston would...

Been chasing those parked cars again I see 06.

I'm a loyal true blue alumnus, but even I can't swallow that one. Texas is a powerhouse but I promise you not everyone in the state of Texas is a Longhorn fan, and as much as YOU would like to believe not everyone in north Louisiana is a LSU or Louisiana Tech University fan. As much as I'd love to say CELA is a great market, its just not so, nothing really exciting being developed and last I heard there really isn't a mad rush to move there for jobs like there is Houston

What's so crazy about what I said? I didn't say everyone in the State of Texas is a Longhorn fan. However, UT does get "hometown" coverage in Houston and DFW. It's the same reason why the Big XII won't add Tulsa to get the Tulsa market. OU and OK State already deliver that market.

Actually you'd be surprised Tulsa has a pretty strong following in this state. As I mentioned in a previous post there are 4 universities in this state that control everything and when you get closer to the cities were they are located people get more and more polarized to their local university.

It doesn't matter how much support Tulsa or Houston has. That's irrelevant. The Big XII already claims those markets.

By your reasoning since the Monroe News Star covers LSU and Tulane we might as well just fire all the Tech coaches and disband the Tech athletic department.

Have you ever even been to Tulsa?? Seriously, the way you talk I doubt you have ever been to the state.

Obviously The Houston Chronicle and The Tulsa World cover their true hometown teams, but they also cover the Big XII teams. Therefore, adding Houston or Tulsa to the conference won't add an additional market because the Big XII already claims those markets. It's not that hard to understand.

The Monroe media does not cover Tulane. Fire the Tech coaches and disband Tech's athletic department? Why? Because LSU and the SEC can claim the North Louisiana markets?

And yes, I have been to Oklahoma.

Might also add that Tulsa packed Boone Pickens Stadium last year to play OSU (most everyone knew before hand that Tulsa was going to lose) I actually was invited to that game and was watching from the skyboxes and I hate to say it but I saw more Blue than Orange by about a 1 to 2 margin.

Now if you want to look at the economical market lets compare the number of Forbes 500 companies in the Tulsa market to CELA

    TULSA

    ONEOK is Number189
    Williams is Number 257

    CELA
    CenturyLINK is Number 334

What does any of that have to do with this discussion, and what does CELA represent?

According to your great theory if a football powerhouse is covered in your market then their is no economic incentive. If LSU is covered in the CELA market then according to your theory why should a conference even think about trying to get a foothold in that market.

Tulsa has a foothold in their hometown market. Next time you are there walk down the street and count the number of Tulsa merchandise you see compared to the other schools. I promise you will see a 10:1 ratio, especially since they started improving their programs.

I probably spent a week in that area every month because of my job and I still can't believe all the fan support.
