    Re: From the negotiating room

A bird over in Hattiesburg told me that our AD did not own a pair of big boy britches. As I pondered that thought with the SKULL in hand it came to me that he was not referencing testicles. Nay nay, he was alluding to the likelihood that Bruce is a lightweight. Since I do not know the man and would be unaware of his presence unless he kicked Ninfa's Jack Russell, can someone other than Cartek or DogtorEvil enlighten me?

We are on our way out to the Quarter for dinner and drinks with friends, but I look forward to the replies as does Drew, the Jack Russell!

    Cheers

In the end it's Sonny's team. Offense and Defense. It's not Sonny's offense and Spanglers defense. SD could fire any of these coaches. So in the end all of it is on him. Good and Bad. Right now it's good and he deserves the credit.

If you would told me CDD would get the TN job after 3 years at Tech with an overall losing record and 1 bowl win over a MAC team I would have said you're &@$/?! nuts.

And then it happened and ruined a perfectly good day of snow skiing for me as I had to take off my gloves every few minute to refresh BBB on my iPhone for updates. And for that, I will never forgive CDD.

There is no rationale in this game (business).

Bd13, you know that's simplistic. He deserves credit when he DOES something. Has he done anything different from last year? Perhaps, but it's not apparent outside the locker room. Is SD the reason for maturation and leadership development? If not, SD and all his assistants are beneficiaries of unearned good fortune.

I agree. It's very simplistic. But in the end Wins and Losses are where the rubber meets the road. Whether it's from luck or scheme isn't relevant as long as it happens. Right now it's happening. What he's done doesn't need to be apparent outside the locker room. It only needs to be apparent in the standings.

    2009 4-8 DD's last year
    2010 5-7 Dykes First Year
    2011 8-4 Outright WAC Champions

I will be very disapointed if we only win 8 games next year. But right now I am seeing improvement. Sometimes it takes a year. So for you to pin the 5-7 record directly on Dykes yet pin the 8-4 record on "good fortune" is not fair or realistic. It takes a lot of coaches 2 years to get things turned around. Hell for some it takes 3. Not turning a 4-8 team around in your very first year is not a black eye against a coach.

if Dykes is successful, a pay raise can only delay the inevitable, not preclude it. If we get angry every time one of our coaches go to an AQ school, we are going to be angry a lot and not accomplish much.

If CSD is not our coach, who then? What if he is in Ruston for 10 years and takes us to 8 bowl games? Do you think we will be selling out Aillet Stadium? The answer is yes.

How did USM get to be successful? Jeff Bower laid the foundation (twss).

Yep, just ask Dooley about Tennessee.

If Dykes stays for five years and builds up a program you guys will be so glad we re-negotiated his contract.. and if he loses tons of games.. well, you have to take risks.
Can we at least wait till we have two good seasons in a row first? We have not had two good seasons in a row for a really long time.

The only way I would have offered a new contract is if we had gone 12-0, which we possibly could have if Dykes had known which QB to start. Why should he get a contract extension and a raise when he caused us to lose 4 games because he didn't start the best player at QB?

No it isn't. That is exactly what I was thinking. Both parties, employee and employer, intended that we win games, championships and bowls. Our coach is doing the job he was hired to do, and quite well at this point, so it seems that everyone should be completely satisfied since things are going exactly as intended.

Hope to see you in San Diego!

Just so we are clear and this is a yes or no answer.

SD was responsible for us going 5-7 last year but Luck and Good Fortune is responsible for us going 8-4 this year?
