+1. Too many danged irregular verbs.

I mean ... if the teachers taught, then shouldnt the preachers have praught?

There are plenty of languages that make a heck of a lot more sense than ingles.

Then you're not doing it right.

I just bought a new Sienna. The dealer took a $400 bath (below his invoice!) b/c he was trying to meet a monthly sales goal.

Wait till the end of December. Call half a dozen dealers in your area and ask for their sales managers. Tell each of them the car you want and that they're competing with other dealers for your business. Then give them 48 hours to call you back with their best price.

You'll spark a bidding war between dealers, as they go back and forth, lower and lower each time you call them back, to get your business and move a unit.

It's a whole lotta fun watching those SOBs sweat.

That is what my brother in law told me to do, except he does it over email now. He just sends out an email to the dealers with his specs and tells them to give their best offer because they are competing with the other dealers in the area. Much easier and cuts to the chase. I will employ it next time.

The word Geaux. Really? Is it not enough to jump on the wagon w/out trying to partake in some bogus culture that only applies to a small region of this state?

On car buying - yes to doing all business in email and/or over the phone. Also-

Truecar.com to get invoice pricing info and to see what other people are paying.

Edmunds.com to see what the holdback is (dealer profit from the factory even if they sell at "invoice").

Also check at the manufacturer's website for other applicable rebates.

Check for online enthusiast forums for the car or manufacturer and read their purchasing threads to pick up any other tips.

The person with the most information is always at an advantage in the negotiation. The online resources have really leveled the playing field.

You working for a dealer now? Are you really "peeved" about the informed car buyer's ability to get a good buy?

No, I don't work for a car dealer. I hate going into a negotiation unprepared or being at an information deficit. Dealing with a car dealer from a distance is the way to go. Too many tactics they can use if you are negotiating in person, especially wasting your time and trying to agree to a part of the deal only to surprise you with some other terms. You should always agree on the total out the door price before you even set foot on the lot to purchase.

Definitely should negotiate with more than one dealer at a time as has already been suggested.

You gave really good information. I've done it successfully this way for years. Just wondering why it is in the "peeve of the day" thread. Maybe we should have a money saving tip thread also.

Welcome to the English language, mav.

It's been making up craptastic new words for well over a millennium, and shows no signs of stopping.

well I'd generally agree, but the Fleur de Lis was made an official symbol of Louisiana by Bobby Jindal. Louisiana Tech represents the whole state, the school isn't a directional school; It represents the whole state both North and South Louisiana. Thinking about it this way, there shouldn't be any disdain toward having a Tech Fleur de Lis.
