In 1694, copper elephants lured people to America... How? That year, England minted "Elephant Tokens"—two half pennies meant to increase interest in the colonies. On the reverse one penny said, "God Preserve New England"; the other, "God Preserve Carolina and the Lord Proprieters."

- October 24 – Iberville and Bienville sail from Brest to the Gulf of Mexico to defend the southern borders of New France; they will eventually found three capitals of Louisiana (New France), as the future American cities: Mobile, Biloxi & New Orleans.

1700 - The Anglo population in the English colonies in America reaches 275,000, with Boston (pop. 7000) as the largest city, followed by New York (pop. 5000).
1700 - In June, Massachusetts passes a law ordering all Roman Catholic priests to leave the colony within three months, upon penalty of life imprisonment or execution. New York then passes a similar law. (Why did we come to the new world? I though we were getting away from Religious persecution)










1701 - In July, The French establish a settlement at Detroit. In October, Yale College is founded in Connecticut.

In London, Buckingham Palace is built as the London home of the Duke of Buckingham.
March 11 - First publication of the Daily Courant, (First regular daily English-language newspaper)
