If we can beat A&M and then win out the rest of the season, we could be looking at a top 10 ranking in the final standings. That is the kind of success we need to make us an attractive candidate for conference expansion. I believe this game is a no-brainer. In fact, we should attempt to schedule a game against LSU in Shreveport one year. LSU is not going to come to Ruston anytime soon. However, if we tempted them with Shreveport, then they may be willing to schedule that venue as they have plenty of alumni in S'port and the Dallas Metroplex. There have been times in the past that we were strong enough to beat LSU, as they have struggled at times with teams like Troy, Ole Miss, UAB, and Kentucky. If and when that happened, the impact of such a landmark win could not be overstated for the Tech program.
Our conference fate has already been determined. We will find out in about 2 months. There is nothing the A&M game can do to change that.
We don't have to play a 3rd AQ team to get in the top 14 of the BCS standings, which is all you need to earn an automatic BC$ bowl berth. Going undefeated with Lamar on the schedule instead of A&M would guarantee us a top 14 finish and a BC$ bowl if there are no other undefeated non-AQ teams.
LSU will never schedule another regular season game in Shreveport, much less against us. That's silly talk.
That, and playing LSU in Shreveport would do more harm than good for us. We are trying to convert the casual Shreveport fanbase to support our school, and at this point, a Shreveport fan will more than likely choose LSU over LA Tech. I'd rather only play LSU if it's a bowl game.
This thread is embarrassing, we have the chance for a good pay-day (which we need, and enough of the "DR/BVDV doesn't fund-raise enough", even if they were out there whoring themselves to every alumni, donor, and corporation we'd still need money games) and a possible quality win in front of a market we "claim" and here we are shivering in our boots.... I'll be Shreveport with my blue on rooting the Dawgs on against the farmers.
So what happens if there are multiple teams from non-AQ conferences that run the table and finish in the top 14? How could all of them "automatically" qualify?
LSU routinely plays in front of crowds of 50,000 on SEC road games. As far as LSU "never" scheduling a game in Shreveport, "never" is an awful long time. For decades, Alabama said it would "never" play a game at Auburn, as it looked down on its in-state rival. The Auburn brass was undaunted and finally got Bama come play in its sandbox in 1989, a game in which Auburn won.
Sorry if I missed it somewhere amongst the 100+ posts, but when is this game going down?
Only the top ranked non-AQ team gets the auto bid.
You can not compare a neutral site conference game to a non-neutral site non-conference game.
Auburn is a peer to Alabama. LSU has no peers in-state. Thank the LA Legislature for that.
No official announcement yet.
Any chance that making more money in Shreveport is a sign that the athletic funding from the school is about to be reduced?
