This isn't communist Russia. ("Is this Russia?" - Ty Webb) Anyway, it shows how really small time we still are to get this worked up about it. Is it a really poor business decision? Yes. Is it insulting? Yes. It doesn't give us an excuse to act like bitter angry goons and vandalize a business like some are suggesting.
When we start winning consistantly and on a bigger stage, misguided promotions like this will no longer occur.
I do understand your point, but from the "BR" I'm guessing you're in Baton Rouge (?) would it seem...at least ODD/inappropriate...if you drove down Florida Blvd, or Seigen Lane...and there were banners tauting Get an Oil Change and enter a sweepstakes for Louisiana Tech football tickets or Tulane? Honestly, I think the hometown folks have every reason to feel this is inappropriate, or at least disrespectful to the main economic engine in the town.
If that happened in Baton Rouge, nobody would care.
Again, yes, I think it is a poor decision by them and insulting but these things won't happen when there is no demand for it. When we win, these type of situations end and you will see less LSU gear at stores b/c people aren't buying it. That's all.
Let me start by saying I despise LSU with every bone in my body, however just about every student at Tech supports LSU and the Saints as most grew up in Louisiana and were raised as fans of them and I know a good percentage of those that support LSU over Tech. This in turn means minimal drop in customers due to it being something that supports LSU and gains them much more than they lose probably. It is a good business move on his part I believe. I don't know what Tech students were like when y'all went to school there, but I see more LSU stuff in dorms and apartments and hanging outside houses than I see Tech stuff.
Maybe you're hanging out in the wrong apartments and dorms!
Seeker, you are partially correct. It seems we still have a percentage of students who get here thinking "little ole Tech...etc". BUT I can absolutely tell this culture is changing and its directly correlated to our recent success on the football field. The more we win, the more these students show up at Tech with the right mindset ready to support their university.
In my experience as a student at Tech, the lsu support is mostly from lower classmen who have not yet developed a cohesive perspective on how things work. They watched lsu in high school..blah blah.... but as they make it to their third forth or fifth year, they begin to see the ridiculousness in going to one university and supporting another.
JUST WIN = problem solved!!!
Right on.
This happened to me in my sophomore year.
I had grown up watching LSU games, one of my sisters was going there, my mother, aunts, cousins, and grandparents all went to LSU. I chose Tech for BME and wanting to break free from the family mold.
I was sitting in the the LSU student section in Baton Rouge in 2003, with my sister (the LSU student) and all of her friends. I was wearing an LSU shirt and had LA Tech painted on both arms. My sister told me before the game that she wouldn't let me sit in the student section with her with only Tech gear on. I pretended to be reluctant, but it made me feel more comfortable.
By the half time at the game (Tech was losing 49-3), I had taken the LSU shirt off and I was screaming with no abandon for Tech. I was threatened, things were thrown at me, people yelled in my face..... and it felt SO GOOD to know I was a TECH fan.
From then on, I was one of the most loyal and truest Tech fans around. I made it a point to help to convert friends and other Tech students who were lost and confused.
I started loving and having pride in the football team at the same time that I truly started loving my school.
You are right though, winning certainly doesn't hurt.
Go Dawgs. It's going to be a good year.
I am guessing that it is still up.
At least start here! I just started a Yelp page on them and wrote a review. Go to this link and write a review:

You can see mine as you flip down the page. If you haven't used yelp before, you have to write the review and, then, go to your email to confirm your email. It will, then, show up as a review. You have to give, at least, one star - I wanted to give 0........ Everyone on here should at least do this!
