I had not seen the entire quote from Dan Cathy before tonight. I'd missed thelast part of these comments:

“We are very much supportive of the family — the biblical definition of the family unit. We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that.”

Does the biblical definition of the family unit only include first marriages?
I'm not aware that it does, however there are more who are better versed than I am. The only thing that pops into my head is Jesus saying that if a man divorces his wife, then she remarries then gets divorced, then the first man marries her again, they are committing adultery.

Oh, and I am a little "off my rocker" on some things. Just not on this one LFR. Besides, who wants to share a rocker with everyone else?

I get it--most of my family is extremely conservative, as was I when I was younger. Thankfully, my Louisiana Tech education gave me the opportunity to "see the light!"

Like you, I repeatedly tell folks they have a right to their opinions. The imbalance of viewpoints on this board is sometimes frustrating, particularly on an issue of equality. It's just hard for me to understand how people can enjoy certain rights (e.g., marriage) and believe so strongly that others should not share that right.

Oh, well. Any group who fought/fights for equality doesn't achieve it overnight--you just have to keep chipping away at it!

Its coming, and in a few generations people are going to look back on this like we do slavery and wonder how there was ever support for the other viewpoint.

They are also committing stupidity for making the same mistake twice.

Champ110 is still one of the good guys because, unlike Guisslapp, he doesn't make a religion of his wrong positions, and, unlike maverick as a poster-child example, he's not smarmy while exuding a pretentious air of "enlightenment" while deigning to share with those who are pitifully clinging to their antiquated comfort zones; feigning surprise at the inability of others to "discuss," whereby it is meant to seriously ponder (and accept) ideas that have already been discredited by centuries of proof. Pity to those who don't have time for such nonsense.

LFR, if you weren't so obstinately misguided, you could be right, too. The good news is that it doesn't really matter TO YOU that you are wrong. As long as you are happy, it is all good FOR YOU. My only religion is "live and let live." Unfortunately, for the good of the world, far too few people ascribe to the "let live" part of my religion.

I dont think so. I think you are correct that it will be legal in a few generations, but it will never seem as terrible as slavery. Owning someone as property seems like something so grotesque now that most Americans cant even fathom. Gays getting married will eventually be established out of apathy and most people wont even care about how it happened 100 years from now.

    It's a ridiculous comparison...what is being deprived is basically a tax-status.

I don't mean to imply that others will perceive the magnitude of injustice to be the same or even close to slavery, but people will not understand the justification of opponents of gay marriage equality similar to how people do not understand the justification of proponents of slavery. Please unwad your panties.
