I bet Coach told his players to stay home and go to bed which is completely appropriate IMHO. The peps are required to be at pep rallys. Beyond that, there's nothing more to it. It won't keep any others away that were going anyway. Agree, 150 to 200 max.
They could go to bed early every night for the next week and RHS is still going to get beat by 3 TDs against Neville. Neville is loaded and RHS is stuck in mediocrity. So why not go support the Dawgs - Laird needs to watch as much good coaching as possible.
The poor ticket sales issue blows my mind, espeicially when we are opening the season with a SEC team THAT WE HAVE NEVER BEATEN and perhaps the best team at Tech in years.
There will be every excuse in the world from traffic, to safety, to high school and jr. high football but the real problem is that while we may have finally gained entry into CUSA we still have a Sunbelt mentality when it comes to fan support and attendance. LUCKILY aTm is not selling tics b/c if they were we just might get embarrassed when there is more Maroon than Blue like in 1999. I'll be there and can't wait. The rest can sit at home, go to bed early and go watch RHS get a thrashing.
Tech fans/alumns/students are doing their part, it's trying to get the area community to become Tech fans. There are a lot of non-student/alumns that root for other D1 schools across America, we just haven't built that sort of support. We need to continue to market, win, and get our core fans to invite them to our games.
I agree with you. Most parents would already not have taken their kids out that late on a school night. I know we will have our kids there because we are local, but we will end up leaving early because both of my girls have tests every Friday. Football is fun, but school is our priority.
School is a priority this time of year for most of us and our children, but I also feel like our children should be able to experience life outside the confines of the school and not be penalized for it. Missing school for a ball game will probably be considered an unexcused absence in most cases, at least it will be in my childs case if everything works out and we get to travel to the game. She will miss part of Thursday and probably Friday, but I think the experience is worth it.
You're exactly right. If only I could find a local doctor that would be willing to write an excuse for his absence on Friday if I brought him in, I'd be set. I have a Dr fraternity brother coming in from Baton Rouge for the game who I could get to do it, but I don't think they would accept an excuse from a Dr in Baton Rouge. If he's too bad off, I've got an idea on how to get it excused. If nothing else, I'll raise holy hell and threaten action (the democrat in me) in reference to the fact that Ruston could cancel a day of school last year for the locals to travel to watch the Bearcats play Walker in Baton Rouge during the playoffs. If that's important enough for them, then this is equally valid in my opinion.
What's the repercussion of having an unexcused absence? He's 9, what will he miss this early in the school year?
Most of the public schools in Shreveport don't have their own football stadiums so they have to share.
Byrd, Shreve, and Woodlawn share Lee Hedges Stadium.
Southwood, Huntington, and Fair Park share Independence Stadium.
Consequently, there is almost always a Thursday night game played at those stadiums.
(Obviously, there won't be a high school game at Independence Stadium on the night we play there.)
