The SGA doesn't really have any say in the process this time. They are being used as a puppet of the administration. This process is being controlled by the administration, and there is no sense of urgency coming from this committee whatsoever.

There will be no interim mascot this year because the administration cites too many liability issues with an interim mascot. Liability issues certainly didn't stop Lumphrey Bogart from serving in 2007.

I say screw the admins and SGA. Let the fine folks on BBB get the mascot.

If they go to the pet store it shouldn't take a year, but if they do what they should and "vet the bloodlines", it could easily take a year. Find reputable breeders, go through vet records (of every dog available in the bloodline) and compare them. Then, depending on whether we choose a breeder or choose the dogs from separate breeders, the dogs have to do it.

Bitches don't walk around pregnant year around. The likelihood that we find a breeder who has a pregnant bitch whose health and whose baby's daddy is healthy is pretty dang unlikely.

I hope they really do their research because if they I'd the right dogs, it shouldn't take so long next time. Plus the dog should live longer.

I know I'm almost 30 and I should be mature enough not to laugh at that but my goodness this was funny to me.

I've said it before and I'll stand by it, keeping Tech with a Ruston family should not be how it's done, and is, in my opinion, half-assed. The entire care of the bulldog is lackadaisical, even with the proposed "easy" stuff that Nathan would add it is still too nonchalant. This isn't a pet, or even a valued family member, it is our MASCOT the symbol of everything Tech stands for and a reminder of the original bulldog and the loyalty and sacrifice it gave for those students. My hope is that we go to a setup similar to A&M, student group (overseen by faculty members) that are full-time responsible and accountable for the dogs care.

And I know their are arguments pointing to Uga being with a local family, it's not any family, it's one family an unbroken line going back to the original; quite different than cherry picking a faculty/staff member.

Yes, it can take up to a year with the folks we have in charged. If they involved alumns or someone who knows what to do, we can speed up the process. We didn't even have a memorial for Tech XX or a statement from the university. I doubt they care.

A dog IS a pet. And if its not treated like a pet (by caretakers), it will not behave like one.

Liability for what, exactly? The interim mascot going on a rampage and eating all the food in Argent Pavilion?

LMAO, this is the MOST ridiculous post I have ever seen from you HD, and that's saying a lot...

Let me get this straight, an HR manager, who probably has no clue about Tech XX's passing or the timeline for the subsequent replacement, will use the fact that it took more than 60 days to install a replacement as a reason not to hire a Tech grad?!?
    Wow... just WOW

And so what if it takes a year, it's our dog and our business how we go about replacing him, everyone is assuming the length of time is just to find the new dog, but as others have said it isn't just about the dog, it's about how we handle it.

As someone who makes hiring decisions (for a good company) I wouldn't hire the person that had the same incident happen twice (heat stroke) with the second incident being the more severe and DIDN'T address or change their MO.
