I'd have to agree that this team was not in the Top 10 of all-time Tech teams. The early 70's teams, the Rattay teams and several others would have handled this team rather easily imo. Completely lacking ANY defense greatly diminishes this team in comparison.
And when 1-AA teams had players like Fred Dean, Quick-Six, Roland Harper, Roger Carr, Pat Tilley, Mike Barber, Billy Ryckman, Joe McNeely, John Causey, Winford Wilborn, Larry Griffin, John Henry White, Larry Anderson ... the current team pales in quality AND quantity (of pro players).
Pittsburgh beats South Florida...Big East has 5 and officially two teams will stay home.
Likely candidates...Central Michigan and one from the Western Kentucky/Bowling Green/Ohio group.
Well, I'd put the 1971-1974 teams against any teams we have had, or any teams alot of schools have had. The 1984 team was very good as well. I also remember Slaughter, Robertson, and Bradshaw QBing some good Tech teams.
In the highest classification, if memory serves, I think we had equal or better teams in 1975, 1977, 1990, 1991, 1997, 1999, 2008, 2011. I may be off on some of the years, but I'm in the neighborhood. Memory not what it used to be. But, upon reflection, I'll go back to my original statement about top 10 all time Tech teams, and this years team not being among them, or at best, at the bottom of the list.
This is the only team we have ever had I truly thought could beat anyone....ANYONE. Our offense is so good that we could score with anyone. We had good teams in past, but there were games with those teams that we knew we would lose.
Say what you want about the defense, but when our offense is rolling, no one can stop it. Ask anyone we played this year.
Would have been fun to see what we could have done with King healthy.
