So does anyone think that we went back to the Indy and said nevermind we will do it and they told us no?
yeah, this should be great for recruiting. so proud
The press release acts like it was just tough luck. No mention of us declining the offer.
Wow! Just Wow!. BV should be fired tonight!. But I doubt that he will be fired at all. Small time.
1) Forget yourselves and feel for those guys who put it all out there this past season, were favorites to bust the BCS, and get nothing in return.
2) In general, the fan base thought there were better opportunities than the Independence bowl, and it seems as though the administration keyed on that, gambled and lost. So...
3) Blame the coaching staff for losing 2 key games at the end of the season.
Will our BIG TIME money men give us the scoop? They sure are quiet right now. Guess they got their wishes. Probably put the nail in the Sonny Dykes coffin. We would be lucky to get anyone to coach us now. How much money and how many recruits did our cockiness cost us you think?
This.
Untwist your panties and pop a couple of midol, ladies. This was a perfect storm.
1. We finished 3rd in a conference with dwindling tie-ins.
2. We have the worst defense in the country, which kept us out of the Orange Bowl (oh, the great irony that it is the foe from our last I-Bowl who is going!).
3. Hell froze over, making nlulm bowl eligible. Normally, we would be their preferred back-up plan.
PLEASE quit spreading this tripe that we turned down the I-Bowl. We, rightly, asked for a couple of days to allow other opportunities to develop. If BVDV had accepted the first offer, there'd be folks on here calling for his resignation for not negotiating.
I hope the I-Bowl loses their shirts on this deal.
People get ahold of yourselves. We didn't turn down the I-bowl. They turned us down. We wanted more time to decide. They said no. Some of the best advice I've ever been given is if someone gives you a choice to make and insists on an immediate answer, the best course of action is to decline. I'm not saying Bruce is perfect, but if I am to understand correctly, he wasn't given a chance to make the best decision. If he had accepted the invite, and then NIU hadn't made the BCS and one of the other bowls would have been open for us, he would have been crucified for that. The fact is that once most of you have it out for someone, nothing they do will ever be right. The I-bowl looked our for their best interest, and we looked out for ours. I wouldn't have been surprised if we had accepted then they would have invited ULM. The I-bowl has never had our best interest in mind and didn't so this year. I just feel bad for the players. It would have been nice for them to have had a say, but they weren't given a chance with the time constraints put on us to decide.
Those of you who are giving the AD a pass on this are blind. The Indy bowl didn't screw us. They invited us and wanted an answer. We said, we don't really want to go to your bowl so let us see if something better comes up and get back to you. The Indy has no obligation to sit around and hope Tech comes crawling back. They moved on when Tech showed no interest. Let's say you call your buddy up and invite him to go fishing with you, he says "well I'm looking for something better to do. Let me get back to you and we'll go fishing if nothing better comes up." It would piss you off and you'd likely tell your buddy to just forget it.
I at first was very pissed and jumped to conclusions - even calling for BeeVeeDeeVee's firing via twatter.
We got cross-cut just like what happens to some girls at sorority rush. We rolled the dice and picked the wrong sorority.
