I am good with him as long as he hires a great DC and OC.

Something I haven't thought of. Definite plus and something desperately needed.

5 straight bowls and he is a proven loser because he went 3-9 this year?

Do you think calling someone with an overall winning record who has taken teams to 5 straight bowls a proven loser is just a little over the top?

I am excited about him. It ALL will depend on who he brings in as OC and DC, though. Those will be BIG hires!

Me neither. High octane offenses, i.e. "the spread", can pile up the touchdowns on weaker defenses but IMHO, they are a one trick pony waiting to be taken down by teams with a good defense.

    Re: Skip Holtz

One of the reasons for USF's poor season this year was bad defense.

From an article on his poor season:
"But the biggest culprit was poor defense. Three times, USF had the fourth-quarter lead with 3 minutes to play (once, it was tied), only to have its defense fail to protect the advantage."

So, with his hire we can look forward to less offense and the same poor defense???

Proven RECENT loser...better? Like I said, I'm well aware of his record. But I'm going off of the last 3 years, and the last 3 years tell me he might not be a very good hire.

Actually it is quite difficult to find out anything of substance.

Nobody knows better than we do that bowls don't always go to the best teams. CUSA had a zillion bowl ties in those years.

Heck, Rice is bowling this year at 6-6.

X bowl games in a row doesn't impress me.
