yeah-- I came on to post that but you beat me. Weird--0 stars after our offer-- 4 stars after LSU offers. I wish the young man well but would be surprised if we don't have 4-5 players making a name for themselves while we wonder "who was that kid from LSU that bailed" -- not being mean, just realistic--

Again there is no such thing as zero stars. Rivals wasn't saying he was a poor recruit so they gave him zero stars. When someone has no stars it just means they have not been evaluated yet. Think of it as a test that hasn't been graded yet not an F.

That said I'm sure he would not have been given 4 Stars had he stayed committed to Tech.

The fanbase is so large at some of these schools that when a kid flying under the radar commits he will get evaluated sooner.

That said you can't put to much stock into these ratings on individual kids but I do think they can be a semi useful tool in judging the overall strength of certain classes.

Exactly the point from my earlier post...he would at best have been a 3-star with a Tech commitment, and possibly only a 2-star.

How many stars would King or Dixon have gotten if they had signed with LSU or Ark or other SEC school? My guess is four.

How many stars would the the best players at each position (let's ssay All Americans) in the BCS have. Some of you guys have the time and resources, but I would bet that about half had only three stars at most. I don't believe Johnny Football had five stars - probably four, but I could be wrong on Johnny.

The "Star" rating used to be legit, because there was only a couple Rivals sites out there that rated the recruits. Now that Rivals has sold out everybody and their brother can create a Rivals site, if they pony up the bucks. Just ask J Ford. Guys like him now have the ability to recommend ratings for these guys. Not sure who has the final say on how many stars a guy gets, but every school has a now has a Rivals guy that can manipulate the amount of Stars their signees have. Ex. Mr. Spears LSU commitment = more stars thanks to the LSU Rivals guy. The whole Star system is a joke.

It wasn't any more "legit" before. Because fewer guys got evaluated.

The advantage to almost every team having an active team page is that they can request that the recruits get scouted. It's certainly got a lot of flaws, but wasn't any better when it was just the biggest name recruits from the biggest name schools getting looked at.

Regardless of what you think about the "Star" system. Rivals.com has lost a ton of creditability with me by letting amatures run their own schools Rivals sites. I've got a buddy that coaches at the I-AA level that calls his Rivals guy when they get a commitment and magically the kid gets bumped to a 2-Star.

Times noted that rivals state evaluator posts regular on some Tiger website-- the O stars usually means the young man has not shown up on the radar and not been evaluated-- its pretty easy to review the last 10 yrs of Tech signed committments on Rivals and see some great players who were never rated-- Both of us agree that the LSU angle impacted his star rating -- just be glad when we can post about our committments

I am worst than most about the Rivals-Scout stuff. Once season over and dead time before signing day, I spend way too much time looking at Tech and our rivals ( small r)-- just a way to extend Tech football addiction. Had friend e-mail what 2 games we want to fly to this AM. Miami was not on his list. Lot of CC guys are not rated

Been watching lots of y'all say Spears got a 4-star rating because he went to LSU. This is completely false. When Spears committed to Tech I was told the 4-star rating was coming. It just so happened he committed to LSU. Is the system perfect? No. But it does a pretty decent job of evaluating players and putting a visual value on each recruit.

Spears maybe not, but that has been a trend. 2 or 3 star decommits from small school, commits to big school, stars are added.
Hopefully we are still trying to convince him to come here. Never know.

He didn't look like a 4 Star to me. He is very raw with good potential, but not a stud yet. I think LSU liked him because he is 6'3 and they can develop him by his Junior year.
