Or turn them down after two days, even at 6-6 or 7-5, for another bowl.

If they get tax money I volunteer to picket the game, their banquets, etc. An no one who cares about Tech or just decent civic offerings for our area should ever buy a ticket, go to that game, have anything to do with a sponsor who condones such an organization. At one time it was an asset. Its time has now passed. Its leadership failed on its own.

    6?

    National Championship
    Sugar
    Capital One
    Cotton
    Outback
    Chick-Fil-A
    Gator
    Music City

The only bowl they have a shot at catching is BBVA. And they just hit a homerun this year with landing Ole Miss. A combined 4.8 million won't even be competitve to be a top 8 SEC bowl. Especially if the SEC adds Houston as a bowl site as I expect. You can't compete with NFL stadiums unless you are Capital One and just have a great deal through ESPN/Title Sponsor.

The Indy Bowl Tax bill has been introduced in the Louisiana State House as House Bill 179: http://www.legis.la.gov/legis/BillInfo.aspx?i=222058

Bossier Press-Tribune: Saving the Indy Bowl

“I'm not promising it's the best answer. Maybe this will bring other people to the table with different ideas,” said Burns.

“It's farily controversial because it's a tax but it's a tax with a purpose. The point is not to put an imposition with anybody,” said Burns.

The Independence Bowl should stop trying to play bottom-feeder with two power conferences...and instead, pony up to get a bid from ONE of those two and then tie in with an upper end team from C-USA.
If you can get #6 or #7 from the SEC to go along with #2 from C-USA....you'll draw a crowd to the game.

Things never line up like fans think they do. Maybe Advocare doesn't want that. Maybe the SEC doesn't want that. Maybe C-USA isn't offering a large enough ticket guarantee to help the bowl balance their budget. These are just simplistic scenarios. But ultimately bowl directors are dealing with issues regarding matchups that we can't even fathom.

Re: Independence Bowl sets sights on stability

I emailed Senator Peacock about HB 179 earlier today. My questions were:

Do you have an opinion on House Bill 179 (the bill to raise the hotel/motel tax in Caddo & Bossier Parishes to help finance the Indy Bill) that was proposed by Rep. Henry Burns? Do you know how some of the members of the Legislature feel about the bill?
    Here is his response:

I have told the supporters of this bill, that I will only vote for it if contains language allowing for a vote of the people Bossier and Caddo Parishes. I want the Independence Bowl to be successful, but the people have to show their support with a vote. I have not heard much discussion about this bill in the legislature.

    Geaux Tiger,

    Barrow Peacock
I thought this was a fair response by Senator Peacock. If the sales tax is going to increase because of this bill, the right thing would be to allow the people of Shreveport, Bossier City, & Caddo and Bossier Parishes to vote on it instead of leaving the decision in the hands of the local governing bodies.

By his signature (Geaux Tiger, Barrow Peacock) I suppose he's a chigger grad?? Is that correct or not?

One of the largest issues all bowls are dealing with is lack of butts in the seats & intriguing tv matchups. You should tie into a regional conference (for a better power rating & butts) & a power conference for their ability to draw a tv audience. Two 6-6's from power conferences is never going to get the job done. There is intrigue in matching a 9-3 CUSA team vs a 6-6 Tennessee or Miss St. This would be the best scenario for the Indy Bowl...but they are either too proud or too stupid to forge this route. This will be their ultimate demise. They want LSPoo vs Notre Dame every year.
